I used to collect Precious Moments figurines as a child. Well...I didn't, but my Mom did for me. I broke several of them so that was the end of that collection. As a teenager I decided to collect Marilyn Monroe memorabilia. I had quite the collection thanks to my family and was so sad to let it all go just this past year. In a house full of young boys, there really isn't a good place to put pictures of Marilyn...and the cookie jar just didn't fit in with my kitchen decor. After Brett was born, I decided to start working out in an attempt...and I use that term loosely...to get my pre-baby body back. I bought the Billy Blanks Tae Bo workout tapes...that's right...VHS. I can remember spending many nights kicking my way into shape in the living room of our first home. By living room, of course I mean living room/family room/toy room/workout room. And it was the perfect place to work out. After Tanner was born I was introduced to my good friend Mari Windsor. She is the instructor of the Windsor Pilates workouts and I got to know her quite well in my attempt...again, loosely... to regain some of my former shape. Shortly after Brady was born, I was introduced to many other workout friends. Alison Davis with the FIRM...Denise Austin with FIT KIDS (in an attempt to include my children in the workouts) Tony Horton with the 10 minute Trainers (The absolutely crazy man who invented the PX90) and Bob and Jillian from the Biggest Loser. We've become very close over the years (all of my workout instructors and I) and I wanted to say thank you so much for helping me in my collection. And of course, I have invited a new workout into my DVD case that is to be delivered sometime this week. I ordered the ZUMBA workout. It is a dance workout that is sure to slim, trim and shape your out of shape body in 30 days or less. I am such a sucker. But it will make a nice addition to my workout DVD collection and I am sure I'll now have a variety of workouts to do should I ever decide to take this fitness things seriously.
Ugh.
Why am I telling you all of this? One because I got the DVD case out the other day to attempt a fitness routine...AGAIN...and had to laugh at all of my DVDs. I thought you might get a kick out of it too. Secondly, to show you that we all get caught up in talking the talk. I WANT to workout. I WANT to be in shape. I WANT my clothes to fit. BUT...talking and walking are two totally different things.
I have started training for the Old Settler's Road Race and so far so good. I have no instructors...I have no workout routine...just running. And to be honest, it is therapeutic! Who knew I had so much energy after a long day of work, kids and such. I want to finish. I want to run and finish. I have no desire to be the first or the fastest. I just want to get to the end of the race. It will be self gratifying. I don't need a trophy or a medal. I don't need my name in the paper as a competitor in my age group. I just want to finish.
Faith can be like that too. We can train and stop. We can study and stop. We can be faithful at attending Church and stop. It feels so good when we are doing it and then life gets in the way. We find ourselves putting the study down for something other than God. We find ourselves at other events rather than church. It takes a conscious decision to give your life to God...and it isn't something you should start and stop. It needs to be something you start and do throughout your life. It isn't something that we can just give up when something else comes along...yet we do. Thank goodness God is forgiving. He always lets us back in. We stray and come home...and He is always holding the door for us.
It is my goal to continue to be faithful. It is my goal to finish the race...both with my faith and with the Old Settler's Road Race. It isn't easy...but so rewarding. It is my goal to finally walk the walk.
So to Billy, Mari, Alison, Tony, Bob, Jillian and Denise...thanks for filling my DVD case and always being there to tell me to push through it. And thanks to God for the same thing. Always pushing me...always loving me...always waiting for me...to walk.
Have a Blessed Day!
Amy

Ha! Just sold my collection in the garage sale for a buck. Think I could've paid for a personal trainer with all the money I spent on those tapes. UGH now that's heart wrenching lol
