Ten Things....

Coach and I had the opportunity to go out last night for the entire evening...without our kids.

This is a big deal for many reasons.  Mainly, because we've had kids with us for the last 13 years.  We dated for about three months before we decided to get married.  We were engaged for all of five minutes when we moved our wedding from January of the next year to September.  We were married for all of three months when we got the news we'd be getting a stork delivery in nine months.  Ever since...we've had kids with us.  It is a rare moment when we get time without one of the three of them.

Last night, we were given this golden opportunity.  It was so nice.  I don't say that in a "we can't stand our kids" sort of way.  I mean it in a "we finally had time together" sort of way.

In reflecting on this experience (something I do quite frequently) I decided to list the top ten things I learned from last night.

1.  It is amazing how much you can cover in a conversation that is uninterrupted.

2.  It is really good to laugh...at each other...at ourselves...and at our life.

3.  Shopping is not something Coach likes to do, but he loves me enough to do it.

4.  Car shopping (or car browsing) is something that gives us both major anxiety.  However...with one headlight that chooses when to be on and a steering wheel that squeaks when you turn...it is something we're both going to have to face doing sooner than later.

5.  I love my husband more than I take time to realize.  In the chaos of our lives...we sometimes forget why we fell in love in the first place.  When he holds a door for me...when he holds my hand so I don't fall down (which happens a lot in these certain grey boots I have)...when he laughs out loud at my crazy ways...I remember.

6.  A grown up dinner followed by an adult beverage and frozen yogurt is a great date.

7.  We have come a long way since Thanksgiving 1997.  Those who've been with us through that entire time would whole heartedly agree.

8.  Our kids drive make us crazy...but, they are what continued to come up in all of our conversations.  :)  They are our loves and pretty much, our entire life.

9.  A night out every once in a blue moon is a good idea for any married couple.  Getting away from "the norm" helps you remember who you are as a person and not who you are trying to be for everyone else.

10.  There's no place like home.  Home isn't just where you live.  Home is where your comfort lives.  Home for me isn't always our living room.  Home is a place where your heart swells with love.  Being with Coach...with our kids...with our life...that's home.  And there's no place I'd rather be.

Have a blessed day!

If you ever get the chance...

If you ever get the chance to sit down and read a book with your child...you should.

If you ever get the chance to watch your children while they are sleeping...you should.

If you ever get the chance to hug your child after a basketball game and to tell them you are proud of them no matter the outcome of the game...you should.

If you ever get the chance to watch your child in a school music program, spelling bee, or activity...you should.

If you ever get the chance to tell your kids you love them before they walk out the door...you should.

If you ever get the chance to thank your parents for all they've done for you in this life...you should.

If you ever get the chance to spend time with your friends for laughter and tears...you should.

If you ever get the chance to thank your children's teachers, coaches, and mentors...you should.

If you ever get the chance to watch a sunrise or sunset...you should.

If you ever get the chance to sit by the beach and soak in the beauty of the ocean...you should.

If you ever get the chance to make cookies with your Granny...you should.

If you ever get the chance to do something to help another person...you should.

If you ever get the chance to be a part of something special in your community that helps others...you should.

If you ever get the chance to smile at a stranger...you should.

If you ever get the chance to forgive someone that has hurt you...you should.

If you ever get the chance to tell someone about God...you should.

If you ever get the chance to hold a newborn baby...you should.

If you ever get the chance to slow down...you should.

In this life of unpredictable happenings, we have to take the chances we are given.  This weekend was full of times when I couldn't keep the tears from falling.  I cannot wrap my mind around the events that took place in Connecticut on Friday morning.  I don't think anyone can.  I can't understand it nor can I find an explanation for it.  All I can do is make changes within my own life for the better.  I can do this by finding a way to let go of the worry and fully trust God, loving my family, and taking every opportunity to show them how much I love them.  I can do all that I can to inspire them to be loving, forgiving, understanding, compassionate, good people.

If you ever get the chance...

Be a good person.

Make a difference.

Have a blessed day!

Grateful

I am amazed by the generosity of the people in my life.  Not that I think people are heartless or anything.  Just that they are willing to go the extra mile to do something good.

The holidays are a crazy, busy time.  We barely have time to get our own shopping done.  We barely have the money to pay for our own holiday expenses.  Yet...people find the time to shop for others.

The holidays can bring out the absolute WORST in people.  The impatient, the cranky, the ungrateful.  They are all out there.  They make shopping miserable and make gatherings unpleasant.  What we have to remember is that we have no idea what makes those people act the way that they do.  Generally, Grinch like behavior stems from a much deeper hurt.  Who knows what makes the holidays a struggle for some.  It isn't ours to know.  But it is ours to pray for.

The holidays can also bring out the BEST in people.  My living room is proof.  A couple of years ago when I was still doing daycare in our home, a friend of mine and I got to talking about those less fortunate.  I decided with the help of social media, I would see if there was a desire for others to take part in a toy drive. The first year was a complete success.  People wondered why we were collecting toys, but they didn't let that curiosity stop them from hitting the stores and delivering their toys.  We spoke with a few representatives of the school district and shared our toy collection with them.  The rest were wrapped and taken to the EMS building for others to hand out.  It was such a bittersweet feeling dropping off the toys.  I was happy to take all of those toys with a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction that the need was filled.  However, when I saw the amount of toys gathered for families who are doing without...I realized the need for assistance in our community.  It is a humbling experience to say the least.

Last year, we decided to try the toy drive for a second year.  My thought was simply if there was a need, it would be filled.  If the toys didn't come in as well, then it wasn't our mission to do the toy drive anymore.  Within a few weeks, the toys were piling in our living room.  Families were taking their kids shopping and dropping sacks off daily.  The need was there and the need was met.

Just last week, Coach mentioned that we didn't have as many toys this year as we had in the past.  I told him that it was okay because I knew if the need was there, it would be filled.  I am confident that this was never my plan to begin with.  When God puts something on your heart, you have two choices.  You can ignore it or you can act on it.  I acted on a plan much bigger than anything I could have put together on my own.  The proof is in the fact that when I came home tonight, our toy load had almost doubled.  This doesn't account for the toys we gave to the district today for them to add to their wonderful collection.

So many people have given of their time, their money, their prayers, and their support.

I am blessed to say that this year's toy drive was another HUGE success.  Thank you to all who have donated.  YOU are the miracle in someone's Christmas.  You are a blessing in their lives and in my life as well.

It's Okay 12/12/12

It's Okay...12/12/12

1.  It's okay to look at the mess in your house and pretend that you don't see it.

2.  It's okay to have a stack of toys taller than your "small" six year old in the middle of your living room to benefit others this holiday season.

3.  It's okay to pick up Pizza Hut for dinner.  It is always a fan favorite and there are no dinner dishes to clean.  (at least not from tonight)

4.  It's okay to wrap Christmas presents in bags.  Sometimes...it's even okay to tape them shut rather than use tissue paper.

5.  It's okay to keep all of your Christmas cards sealed in a basket because you feel so guilty that you haven't gotten yours done or sent yet.

6.  It's okay if you don't get your Christmas cards out until 2013.  (Right?)

7.  It's okay if you are supposed to bring a snack to a party and you buy chips and salsa right off the store shelf.

8.  It's okay to drink as many cups of sugar free peppermint cream coffee as you'd like to keep you awake to write the 8 page research paper you've been avoiding since November.

9.  It's okay to get a giant Hershey's chocolate bar from your secret angel and say loudly for others to hear..."I'll NEVER be able to finish this!", and then eat the entire thing by yourself.

10.  It's okay to cry when you feel sad, or happy, or angry, or frustrated, or exhausted, or whatever.  I promise you...it's normal.  (if you are me)

11.  It's okay to close your eyes and breathe...but, not for too long or you'll fall asleep.  And who has time for sleep?

12.  It's okay when you realize you didn't do anything special at 12:12 on 12/12/12.  One minute of one day of one month of one year.  It's a special day, I'm sure.  But so were 9/26/98...and 9/23/99...and 2/14/02...and 10/26/06.  As much as I would have liked to stop at 12:12 and notice...it didn't happen.  And that's okay.  God knows the moments we are supposed to stop and notice...and I'm so thankful for that!

Have a blessed day!

I Believe

It's Christmas...well almost.  Today I read a sign that said we have 18 days.

EIGHTEEN DAYS?

Good grief.

When did this happen?  Where did November go?  Why are we 7 days into December and I am just realizing the small detail that Christmas is in 18 days?

Too many questions...not enough answers.

This week, a good friend of mine went through a rough time.  God knows the details, but I'd ask that you pray for her during these upcoming months.  My sweet sister made dinner for this friend and took her a sign that said

"Believe".

In times of struggle...it is so hard to believe that there is a God.  It is hard to believe that there is a plan.  It is almost impossible to believe that there is a silver lining...or a light at the end of the tunnel.  Believing can be very difficult without understanding.  Yet that is what we're asked to do.

"Believe".

As I said in an earlier post, I have also been reading a lot on Facebook about different people's beliefs.  What they believe in.  What the believe to be a hoax.  What they believe others should feel, say, think, or do.

So this got me to thinking and asking myself...

What do I believe?  What do I believe in?

Have you ever considered this and why it is you believe the way that you do?  Or perhaps...why others believe the way they do?  What has lead them to that point in their lives?  What brought me to this point in mine?

Something to consider.

After a day full of laughter and tears...I thought I would compose a small list of what I believe.

Without further adieu...

"I Believe"

I believe in God...because I was raised in a loving, Christian home.  I have experienced hard times and miracles that can't be explained.  I choose to give this credit to God.  I asked him to live in my heart when I was 13 years old.  There were many times during this journey with Christ that I have fallen.  Each time, by the grace of God, I get back up and am an even stronger person than I was before.  I believe in God.

I believe in laughter.  There aren't many things better for the soul than a good, full out belly laugh with friends and family.  Many times in the midst of sadness, a memory brings smiles and laughter.  Other times, in stressful situations, laughter can ease tension and soften the heart.  I believe in laughter.

I believe in tears.  I have no choice.  I was born with broken tear duct controllers.  Tears are my first reaction to every emotion I've ever felt.  My tears bring tears to others...and sometimes even bring laughter.  Crying is also good for the soul.  Therefore...it's alright to cry.  As the song says...crying takes the sad out of it.

I believe in the kindness of letting people down softly.  When an honest answer might bring hurt to others, that makes me nervous.  I believe in letting people down gently.  Being considerate of other people's feelings can be one of the most descent things you can do.  Honesty is always the best policy.  But doing so with a kind heart makes the truth easier for others to hear.   Be kind.

I believe in doing good things for other people.  JUST BECAUSE.  If there is a way to be kind and do good for others, you should do it.  It can be something as small as opening a door...or smiling when you pass a person on the street.  It doesn't have to be huge, but if you do good...others notice and want to do it too.  Don't do nice things SO others will notice, but do good because you can...and you want to.  It is an amazing feeling when someone goes out of their way to do something "good" for you.

I believe in messy houses.  I don't love a messy house, but I believe in them.  My house is messy because everything else comes first.  We live very busy lives...and that's okay.  The house can wait.  I want to be proud to open the door to anyone, but I also know there aren't enough hours in the day to get it all done.  I am so grateful for moments sitting with Little...moments talking with Big...moments cooking with Middle...(don't worry...I'll have someone re-teach him how to cook before he really grows up).  Dust...hand prints...spotted mirrors.  Those things will be around forever...Big, Middle, and Little...will not.  I believe in messy houses.  (I also believe that someday...it will be clean again)  *ATTENTION MOTHER:  This does not mean that people with clean houses don't spend quality time with their children.  It simply means there aren't enough hours in my day to make cleaning this house a priority RIGHT NOW.

I believe in lazy Saturday mornings.
I believe in eating cookie dough...and not sharing with your children.
I believe in trying things twice.  If at first you don't succeed (which I don't usually) try...try again.  It didn't work out with volleyball or having a daughter...but there are others moments of success that came on the second attempt.
I believe Cheer leading is a SPORT.  *ATTENTION KERR friends:  This is a matter of opinion based on my experience.  In comparison to your experience with playing collegiate level volleyball and getting hit ON PURPOSE with balls...I get it. Now...let me get back to my "reality".
I believe in popcorn and M&Ms.  What a marvelous couple.
I believe in dancing in the kitchen.  (Unfortunately Coach does not...but Little does)
I believe in listening to Christmas music in November.
I believe in Black Friday deals...and the sheer madness that happens.
I believe in second chances and forgiveness.
I believe in the miracle of Christmas.
I believe in Santa because my Mom says if we don't believe, we get underwear.
I believe in writing how you really feel and knowing that even though some will disagree, people will respect you for being honest.
I believe God puts people in your life for a reason.  (he also takes them out for a reason)
I believe everything happens for a reason.

So...what do you believe?

Have a blessed night friends!

What makes a miracle?

1
: an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs
2
: an extremely outstanding or unusual event, thing, or accomplishment

These are the definitions of the word miracle according to Merriam-Webster.  Today in Sunday School we discussed what the word miracle means to us.  Some of the thoughts thrown out were:
An unexplainable event
Something that happens without understanding
Something that is happens against all odds
A wonderful thing
There were others, but these are the ones that stuck in my mind.  A miracle can happen to anyone.  Another question asked was why do miracles happen to ordinary people?  I believe miracles happen to ordinary people because God wants us to know that you don't have to be an extraordinary person to be a part of something special.
A lot has been on my heart this week about my relationship with God...why bad things happen in this world...and what to do with the emotions and feelings that come about as a result.  I don't know a lot about religion.  I was fortunate to be a part of our church's  confirmation class last year as a mentor and learned quite a bit about our church and how it came about.  But I don't know the Bible as well as I should.  What I do know is what I feel having Christ in my life.  In times of struggle, I have peace.  I know bad things happen to good people.  I know it.  I've seen it.  And I have absolutely no understanding of it.  But I have also seen people in my life come through the valley and find themselves once again on the mountain top.  This my friends is a miracle.  There are many instances of BIG miracles in our lives.  There are also small miracles that come when no one is looking.  One would be recovering from an illness.  One would be recovering from a heartbreak.  One would be being able to deal with the loss of a loved one.  One would be the birth of a child.  One would be a family in need receiving what they can't afford on their own because of the kindness of others.  Miracles happen every day. We just have to be available to see them and to help create them in the lives of others.
The miracle of Christmas for those who believe in the real Christmas story would be how baby Jesus came to be.  How he was born to a virgin.  How he lived to tell the story.  How he died to save us from our sins.  How he promised a new life to all who love and forgive.  That is the miracle of Christmas.  What I learned this morning that I wanted to share is this...(paraphrased of course because I have a HORRIBLE memory)
Everyone of us has the potential to have a God movement in us.  We can listen.  We can pray.  We can read the bible for better understanding and guidance.  And WE...can create miracles for others.  We can do this by acting on what we feel is right.  If something is on your heart this holiday season, don't be afraid to act on it.  We can be part of someone else's Christmas miracle.
I have three kids.  I know the excitement of Santa and presents.  I know the joy of giving and receiving.  What we are encouraged to do is to create the excitement and joy of the PRESENCE of Jesus in our Christmas.

What makes a miracle?

YOU.

Food for thought.
Have a blessed day!

Simplicity

It is the last day of November.  How that happened, I will never know.  It seems like just yesterday I was having a freak out about Little going to Kindergarten.  I look back and see a blur of the starting of school, football, and the ending of my college (the second time around).

I'm glad when I look back and see that we've made it through some crazy schedules and tough events.  I'm sad that I am looking back and more than half the year is gone.

For the past couple of days I've been feeling heavy.  Not weight heavy (well a little), but just heavy.  Like there is a giant burden on my shoulders.  I can't even tell you what it is or what it pertains to specifically.  I just feel that it's there.  I don't want to start our holiday season feeling like this.  So when I got home from school today, I decided to spend a little time trying to figure it out.

We are so blessed.  We fall on tough times every now and again, but nothing we can't handle.  Our kids are healthy and happy (for the most part).  We have a roof over our heads and food on our table.  We have clothes, coats, shoes, and all the necessities we could ask for.  We  have more than enough in the electronic department.  We have communication devices and friends and family to communicate with.

So what's missing?

Simplicity.  After spending a little quiet time with God, I went and got out our old family albums.  Yes...albums.  Some of them are poor quality scrapbooks, and some are just picture albums.  I started skimming pictures of Christmas past.  It was just what I needed.  I looked at pictures of Big when he was just a little thing.  We had been married for just a year.  We had a house that was just right for the three of us.  We had a dog, a Christmas tree, two cars, two jobs, a baby, and love.  It seemed so simple but, life was crazy in it's own way.

I then moved on to the pictures of Christmas with the four of us.  We had a new home, a Christmas tree, a mini-van, a lively 3 year old, an almost 1 year old, still  had our dog, and we had love.  It seemed so simple but, life was crazy in it's own way.

I found the pictures of the first Christmas when we had Little.  We were dealing with a brand new, unexpected baby.  Coach was coaching high school basketball, Big was 7, Middle was almost 5, we had another new mini-van, still had our old, faithful dog, and we had love.  Our schedules were busy, but we played in the snow, spent time with our family, and knew how to love.  It seemed so simple but, life was still crazy in it's own way.

In looking through the pictures, I found what I was looking for.  I found the simplicity of our past.  We had struggles then too.  We had cranky babies and sleepless nights.  We had car trouble and financial issues from time to time.  But we found a way to celebrate the simple things through the craziness.

Life is always crazy.  It is full of ups and downs.  The holidays do a good job of bringing those things to light too.  We have memories of both good and bad.  We miss those who aren't with us, and we celebrate those who are.  We learn about the Christmas story and we bask in what make the holidays special to us.

This next month, I challenge you and myself to find the simplicity in a crazy time and a crazy life.  Someday I'll look back on this time in our lives and be so grateful for the simple things in a crazy life.  We are all rolled up in basketball schedules, the end of school, and life as we know it.  We have Christmas cards to prepare, presents to wrap, meals to prepare, etc.  We have a CRAZY schedule.  But sitting here looking at the tree...I am finding it simple to deal.  Having the right attitude and a good batch of cookie dough is the half the battle.  :)

Have a blessed day!

Shopping equals FUN

This morning, I am leaving.

I'm out of here.

Kansas City...here I come!

Every year at this time, my Mom, Sis, Granny, and I take off for Kansas City for a little shopping excursion...if you will.

We usually load up on Friday after all the children (and husbands) have gone to school.  We head out to the fabulous world where The Cheesecake Factory lives and shop like we have unlimited funds.  (It's Christmas...and that's what you do.)  We listen to Christmas music and drink Starbucks like we're fancy. And we shop.  We shop and we shop and we SHOP.  We do this until our blood sugars get low and we start getting cranky with one another and then we eat.  We eat, and we shop some more.  This happens for three days.  And I LOVE IT.

I'm so excited to go spend time with some of the most important women in my life.  We have a lifetime of memories to talk about while we're driving and we usually get some pretty good advice from Mom and Granny.  Sister and I fight...occasionally.  Because that's what sisters do.  Nothing a little piece of snickers cheesecake split down the middle can't do for us.

I miss the boys while I'm gone, but the girl time is SO nice.  I don't know if you know this, but I am the only girl in my house.  Besides our 9 lb. dachshund and she doesn't count.  She very rarely acts like a lady so I'm on my own here.  Being in an environment where make up and cute clothes matter makes me happy.  I was raised by one pretty fancy lady.  I had one sister...so you can imagine the changes I had to go through living in a  house with four boys.  Nobody "gets" me.  Which is kind of nice because that scares them.  Other women catch on to my tricks, but the men in my life just tend to give me what I want when I cry...and I do that quite frequently.

It isn't the food that I love about this trip...(but, I do like the fact that I don't have to cook).  It isn't the holiday music and the shopping that I love about this trip...(but, I am so happy they'll be playing Christmas music in all of the stores).  It is the special time I get with the some amazing women.

Okay...and it's the cheesecake.  You can read me like a book.  But...in my defense ..it's my birthday and they'll force me to eat it.

(To Robin...my new aerobics instructor...I will take it easy.  To Coach...my old workout instructor...I'll do a few sit-ups for you.)

Have a blessed weekend all!

Game Day Jitters

There is this game...perhaps you've heard of it.

It's called football.

There are many definitions of football (the game)...

1.   A game played by two teams of 11 players each on a rectangular, 100-yard-long field with goal lines and goal posts at either end, the object being to gain possession of the ball and advance it in running or passing plays across the opponent's goal line or kick it through the air between the opponent's goal posts.

2.  This thing that has taken over the lives of my football family for the past 4 months

You may have a hard time figuring out which definition is mine...

In all seriousness, this team has been working on this very goal since they started team camp in June.  The team has been working and conditioning for this moment.  Every year Coach says he wants a win for his birthday.  This year, he finally got his wish.

I can't explain to you what is happening in the minds of these players and coaches right now as I  have never been in their position.  What I can tell you is what is happening in the mind of a fan/coaches wife.  My heart is in my throat.  My stomach is in knots.  I am so excited I can hardly stand it...but my nerves are getting the best of me.

This team is a unified group if I have ever seen one.  Players AND coaches all working toward the same goal.  Another win.  Another win means we move forward.  Moving forward means achieving a goal that these guys have been wanting for a long time.  Achieving that goal means a happy husband...which is actually what I want for my birthday!

I can't wait to watch these boys do their thing tonight.  Whatever happens, all involved should be proud.  I can't wait to see the bleachers filled with fans...it really is an amazing atmosphere.  We are a small town, but we have a big dream.  I say we because those of us who have been attending the games...we want it too.  I want it for my husband...I want it for our football family...I want it for the boys who have worked so very hard all season long.

By this time each year, I've taken down my football decor and replaced it with turkeys and signs of Thanksgiving.

This year...the football stuff remains in place because I am thankful for MULVANE FOOTBALL.  I am thankful for the joy and the friendships it has brought into my life...even though I am not sure I understand all aspects of the game.

Let's go boys!  Let's go coaches!  Let's go tums (to calm my stomach)!

I believe!

Love story

One of my favorite songs has always been Jack and Diane by John Cougar Mellencamp.

Little ditty...bout Jack and Diane
Two American kids doin' the best they can...

Well here's a little ditty about Steve and I...

There was this guy...about fifteen years ago that asked me out on a date.  He called...before we had caller ID.  When I answered the phone and he said..."hey, this is Steve Nelson", I reacted like any calm, cool, and collected young woman who had a crush on this guy would.

I held my hand over the mouth piece and did a little "ditty dance" of my own right there in the kitchen of my parents house.  He said he was bringing something over for me to give to my brother in law...his friend.  I hung up the phone, ran downstairs, brushed my teeth, fluffed my hair, added some lipstick and straightened my overalls.  (Don't laugh...this was the 90's and overalls were ALL the rage.  Along with curled under bangs and flannel shirts.  Come to think of it, I'm not sure how I won his heart with my outfit)  Anyway, Steve (Coach) came to the door with a card for my brother in law.  We stood there and talked for a few minutes and then he asked me out.  I reacted like any calm, cool, and collected young woman would...and said yes.  But, as soon as I shut the door, I dramatically danced again and then slid down wall with excitement.  When I came to about thirty seconds later, I ran to the phone and called my Mom.  I'm quite certain the conversation went something like this...

Me:  MOM!!!
Mom:  What?
Me:  He asked me out!
Mom: Who?
Me:  Steve Nelson!!!
Mom:  Steve Nelson?  Are you sure he said what you think he said?
Me:  Mom...seriously...gaw
Mom:  Wait...are we talking about the same person here?  Daniel's friend?
Me:  Whatever...I have to go iron my flannel.

Okay...so I ad libbed a little there, but you get the idea.

I was so excited that this guy...who had been much older (still is) and hardly knew I existed just two years prior was asking me on a date!

It was such a great day.  In fact, it was the best day of his life.  (I remind him of this all of the time)

In all actuality...it was the first day of the rest of my life.  Prior to Coach coming into my life, I was confused about what love meant.  I thought I knew what love was until I met this kind, considerate, quiet guy.  He loved me for who and what I was.  I didn't have to change for him.  He wanted me for me.  And isn't that we all want in this life?  To be loved for what we are?  Not for what we'll become...or for what we have done.  Just loved for who we are.

I am so thankful that he chose me...

I am also thankful that we have come so far in our relationship.  God knew what he was doing. Even though we are polar opposites.  I mean...complete and total opposites.

If I had to write my love story...I don't know that I would change a thing.  It is all perfect in God's timing.

Have a blessed day!

What Blog?

I've been struggling with a bit of writer's block lately.

I couldn't even tell you why...until today.

So much has been happening lately in this life...and I don't always know how to handle it.  Losing Taylor last week made it hard to make anything else seem significant.  When I say "losing Taylor", I am in no way trying to make this about me.  The loss of Taylor brought so many emotions forth that I can't even express.  In being a part of the Kyrie Foundation over the past five years, pediatric brain cancer is something we are faced with all of the time.  We hear stories...we see pictures...we see miracles and we see loss.  And in those moments...it is hard to make anything else matter.

Those who love someone else more than themselves can understand.  Anyone who has lost a loved one can understand.  It is hard to make a joke...write a post...or blog about anything because in light of the recent events...it seems bland.

However...as I sat this morning with my coffee...I realized something else.  Being a believer in Christ, I have the great opportunity to see the beauty in life after a storm.  Just because we love God, doesn't mean we don't have doubts.  Our faith is shaken too.  And with the loss of another child to cancer...my faith was shaken.  I felt vulnerable...and scared...and angry with understanding how little we control this life.  And then...when the clouds clear...I found peace knowing the same thing.

I heard a song the other day that said...You are God and you are strong when I am weak.

He is God.  He makes all the decisions.  He has this master plan that we can't even begin to understand.  And there are moments of complete panic and chaos.  And then...there are moments of miracles.  Awesome, wonderful things that happen because God loves us and knows the desires of our hearts.

In light of the political debate happening post election...in light of the football team who we are cheering to a victory tonight...in light of the life of an amazing young woman who fought her battle while truly living life...life continues.

Even when things seem insignificant in comparison...it is still part of life.  We have to keep moving.  We have to keep loving.  We have to keep believing that there will be light after a storm.

We have a big night tonight.  Wildcat football at it's finest.  Tomorrow is Coach's birthday and he wants nothing more than a win.  (Thank goodness he hasn't asked for a cake.)

Happy Birthday tomorrow Coach!  We love you so much and can't thank you enough for all you do for this family.  You are an amazing husband and Dad.  And no matter what happens tonight...we are proud of you and the Wildcats!

I believe!

Have a blessed day!
