Good Idea!

This I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

-Lamentations 3:21-23 (NRSV)

When we were at the Jeremy Camp concert last Winter, I remember one of the artists saying..."His mercies are new each day."  It stuck with me and has come up several times in the last six months...and this morning, it surfaced again.  I was looking through devotionals from another great web site (www.upperroom.com) when I came across one called 'The Blessing List'.

It isn't that I want to mess up every single day.  But I do.  I make mistakes almost daily.  Not always HUGE mistakes...but at the end of the day, I can usually come up with several things I did that I am not very proud of.  I ask Him to intervene and to forgive me for acting that way.  It is so encouraging to know that HE knows...I'm going to fail.  I'm going to make mistakes.  I'm going to be in the wrong...yet every day...He forgives.  I wish I could be more like that.  If people wronged me during the day...could I forgive them the very next morning?  I'll be needing to work on that one.

The devotion I read this morning talked about the writer of Lamentations and how in his moments of despair, he still spoke of a 'blessing list'.  He spoke of a God who is faithful...and who would always be there.  In his darkest hour...he still believed.  Like the Jeremy Camp song...(I still believe)

Even when I don't see...I still believe.

So today I am going to work on a 'Blessings List' to go with my 'Prayer List' and I encourage you to do the same.  Take a moment today to write down some of your blessings.  You'll be so moved to see what God has blessed you with in this very day.  And it will lift your spirits and hopefully help us all to remember that even when we are in our darkest hour...he is there.  Great is thy faithfulness.

Have a Blessed Day!

Love thy Neighbor

I was driving home last night listening to KLove and the DJ asked a question for listeners to call in and respond to.  The question was...if given the opportunity to talk to your neighbor about God...would you and what would you say?

Good question.  Would we?

Well...each morning I get up and try to talk to you all and to God about the things that happen in my life.  I try to relate to Him...and I try to show others His love in my actions.  It doesn't always come out like I would like.  Sometimes His love is masked by my anger...resentment...regret...ill intentions...the list goes on and on.  But I try.  If given the chance, I try to share His love with the ones that I love.  I need to get better at sharing His love with those I don't even know.

We are very fortunate to live in a small town and live in a neighborhood with lots of our friends.  And I feel like most of those who know me...know my love for Christ.  But there are people in this neighborhood that I don't know.  I wouldn't say I am super comfortable talking face to face with people about Christ. More than it making me uncomfortable...I feel like I am making others uncomfortable...which in turn makes me uncomfortable.  Sometimes I struggle when people are in a bad spot...to verbally share how He is involved and how He is looking out for their best interest.  I am not sure why...other than I feel as though they might come back with something negative about the God I love so much.  I am extremely good at loving Him...I am not always good with verbally defending Him.  Why He does what He does is a mystery to me.  But I have faith and I believe.  That is not always a good rebuttal in an argument on whether or not He is present in hard times though.

I do feel as if people are becoming more and more open to listening though.  With the Christian radio stations and more contemporary worship...people aren't fighting the idea of church so much.  And it is becoming more and more common to hear people discussing their faith...over their religion.  Growing up it seemed to be about religion.  I may be crazy...but it seems like people are finding their faith through many different aspects.  Church, radio, TV, Internet...etc.  The opportunities to learn about Him are out there in many ways...outside the church walls.  Which leads me to this...

We should tell our neighbors.  We should tell our friends.  We should tell our loved ones.  We should tell everyone about His love.  We should be able to talk about Him openly and know that when the argument comes up...He'll give us the right words.  He is in control.  When God wants someone to know Him...he'll allow us to be the tool he uses to reach those around us.  We are extensions of His body...and if we are open to the thought of sharing His love...he'll make it possible.  Of course there will be skeptics.  Of course there will be people who misunderstand our intentions...but there will also be people who are open to the idea of knowing Him and who desperately need Him.

I had to laugh at one of the suggestions though...one of the radio listeners called in and suggested taking cookies over and striking up a conversation about something that might be brought up in a church service.  For anyone who knows about my baking skills...or lack there of...I had to laugh.  Don't worry neighbor folks....I'll buy my cookies from Dillons.  I won't come to you with a burnt invitation to know Christ.  I promise.

Have a Blessed Day!

Found this for your enjoyment

This is our Brady...last year.  We finally got this on tape after many demands by our families.  I found it tonight as I was going through some videos.  Enjoy.  I am telling you...he is obsessed.  It is already happening again this year.  Love you Brady Bug!!! (You'll need to pause the sound to hear Brady's mad skills)

If it IS broke...let Him fix it

I found this devotion today and loved it.  Isn't it appropriate that in life, we "break" things and sometimes have a hard time fixing them?  I think that too often we try to fix things on our own...never asking for any assistance.  I know for a fact, we are not skilled in everything...and usually not skilled in the areas of our lives that need repairing.  Most of the time, when we make mistakes...they are because we don't understand the consequences...or don't care about the risk.  Only to find out in the end, we are broken.  Who better to go to than God when things need "fixing"?

If you’ve ever tried to fix something and failed, you’ll appreciate the sign I saw outside an automotive repair shop: We Will Fix What Your Husband Fixed. Whether the problem is the car, the plumbing, or an appliance, it’s usually better off in the hands of someone who is skilled and trustworthy.

So it is with the sin and the struggles within us that resist our efforts to mend them.

Jeremiah denounced the greedy prophets and priests of his day who “healed the hurt of [God’s] people slightly, saying ‘Peace, peace!’ when there is no peace” (Jer. 6:14). They could neither change themselves nor lead the people to spiritual transformation. So the Lord called the people to follow His way: “Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; then you will find rest for your souls” (v.16).

Centuries later, Jesus, the Son of God, said: “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matt. 11:28).

The parts of our lives that we have tried and failed to repair can be restored by the hand of God. Through faith in Christ, we can be made whole.

Life’s fractures can be mended

By faith in Christ the Lord—

At first the pain but then the gain

And usefulness restored. —Hess

Guess What

It is Football Season.

I know you must be wondering how I already know this...and it is because my own personal quarterback woke me up yesterday wearing this.  You can see through the mesh practice jersey he is wearing his normal Cars pajamas...with his big brother's new football gear.

One thing I can say for Brady Nelson...number two and two (22)...is that he gives it his all.  He isn't always committed to one sport...but when he decides it is time, he gives his heart and soul (and wardrobe) to that sport.  Yesterday, he came in asking me when we were going to paint his helmet and when he could get a mouth piece.  I am telling you...he knows.  He walks by the TV in the morning and if it is on ESPN (which it normally is) he'll stop and just stare.  Then he'll turn around asking for another piece of equipment or uniform.  It is too much.

This year is different for me because my little man Tanner, is starting his first year of tackle football.  He has been playing flag football for the past few years and had a lot of fun.  But as soon as big brother Brett started the "real deal" Tanner has been watching...waiting for his turn.  He has been practicing tackling drills and pass routes in the basement for months.  He is ready.  And the big difference in my kids is that with Brett...you never quite know what he is thinking.  With Tanner...you ALWAYS know what he is thinking.  He is an open book and I love it.  His enthusiasm is contagious and his excitement for football this year makes ME excited!  And I don't get football at ALL

Don't get me wrong...I love the mystery of my oldest.  I love how he keeps things under wraps and never quite seems out of control.  But Tanner...he is like me.  You know when he loves something and you know when he hates it.  You know when he is overjoyed and you know when he is broken hearted.  Last night, he was so excited to go to camp...and I was too.  So after they left...Mr. Brady Quarterback two and two & I walked over to the practice field and watched the boys.  Tanner worked so hard...and I was super proud.  Brett came home as cool as ever because he is now a 5th grade football player and he is just 'cool'.  He worked hard too and I loved seeing his face all red and serious.  But you couldn't have wiped the smile off Tanner's face.  No way.

So...I feel it is rather appropriate to say...

Are you ready for some football?

Lord, thank you for giving me such differences in the boys.  Thank you for allowing them the strength to be able to play and the health to keep up.  Thank you for giving us opportunities day after day to learn and love them the way that you love us.  And I guess...because the boys love  it SO much...thank you for football.  :)

Have a Blessed Day!

Time Flies

For those of you who have been following my life...I would like to announce that baseball 2010 for the Nelson family is officially over.  It is completely bittersweet too.  I thought I was ready...and I still think I am for the most part.  But not going to games means not seeing the people who have grown to be like our extended family over the last almost 5 months.  They know and love us as much as we know and love them.  They have watched Brady have major accidents and dress like a major league ball player game after game.  They know that I love Diet Pepsi and Hot Tamales...and that I chew dill pickle sunflower seeds like a squirrel when I am nervous.  They know that Coach has the best interest of the kids at heart every single time and I hope that they always remember what part Brett played in making the season a 'good one'.  We didn't win many games...so that part was not always fun.  But the boys had personal success and they grew as players and as young men.  I am proud of you Jags!

We spent Friday night with some of our good friends from our younger years in Topeka.  Two of Coach's college roommates live up there and we had a wonderful time.  It was so good seeing them and just getting to hang out and talk about the crazy old times.  We only see them about once or twice a year and each time we see them, we all marvel over how big the kids have gotten and how fast time flies.

Time does fly.

Too fast.

It seems like just yesterday, Chele and I were driving across the country to go to Disneyland for the first time.  We were 8 and 9ish and we got to go to California for a vacation to see my Mom's brother and sis in law.  And now...my sister and her husband just got back from their first vacation in California...Crazy.

Time flies.

It seems like just yesterday, Brett was a baby.  I was watching him play ball yesterday and I stared at him thinking...this kid will be 11 in two months.  Where does the time go?  He was just a baby!  He was just a toddler monster!  He was just a pre-schooler!  He was just a kindergartner!  He was just playing t-ball!  And now...he is almost as tall as I am.

Time flies.

It seems like just yesterday I was starting this blog.  And here it is almost August and we are almost 8 months into the journey.  I can't even begin to tell you all the things I have learned since starting to write this...but it is amazing the shift my life has taken since I have been aware of his presence in my life.  I am not in any way shape or form perfect.  I have moments of complete and total weakness.  I have moments of complete and total ugliness.  But prior to this experience...I would have made those comments and never, ever looked back.  Now...I stop.  I think.  I go to God and ask him to forgive me.  And He understands.  I don't think he is always pleased with me when I glare at our waitress or yell at an umpire...but He is always there to say
Of course I forgive you.

Since time seems to be flying, I am going to make sure from today on, that I am doing all that I can with my friends, family and loved ones to help them to understand how much I love them.  With time going by so quickly, it won't be two seconds and I'll be bawling all over myself because Brett will be starting middle school.  None of us know how long we have here and with what we all have experienced this summer, we must make every second count...even with a bad waitress or an umpire that is CLEARLY wrong.  :)  (Momma says so)

Have a Blessed Day all and don't let time fly away without you being able to share His love.

Goodness Again

My Mom called just a bit ago with a story I wanted to share.  She went to the Tag office this morning to renew her tags.  She was standing in line when she realized that with  her tags, she needed to remove them and bring them in.  She'd already been in line for some time and turned around to ask anyone behind her if they would happen to have a screwdriver she could borrow.  Now if you know my Mother at all, you'd understand what a big deal this is.  She is not the tools 'do it yourself' kind of person.  She is very 'girly' and I love her for it.  The man behind her said he had a screwdriver and he'd help her.  They left their place in line...both of them...and went to remove her tag from the car.  After they finished, they got back in line and waited their turn.  The man finished first and waited in the parking lot for Mom to come out with her new tags...then proceeded to help her put the new ones on.  She was upset because she didn't have any cash to pay him.  She said that she felt bad that she couldn't pay him and he said..."No need...Just do something nice for someone else and we'll call it good".  Mom was so moved by his kindness that she said that God must have been involved.  He told her this..."that is just something I learned from my Mom."

Well...kind Sir...thank you for helping my Mom.  Thank you for taking time out of your busy day...for getting out of line...for helping her more than you ever had to and for learning that wonderful lesson from your Mom...who no doubt learned it from God.

Mom said something that really spoke to me...if given the chance...would we?  Would we lose our place in line to help someone in need?  Would we pull over on the side of the road to help someone if we are running late?  Would we go the extra mile for a stranger if it put us a mile back?  Would we?  Would you?  Food for thought...definitely.

Have a Blessed Day!

Do Unto Others

1 Peter 3:9 (New International Version)

9Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

As I laid there last night typing away about my boys growing up and going to different schools...and I shed a tear thinking about them growing up...I suddenly remembered that school IS starting and I won't have to listen to them fighting on an all day every day basis anymore!  WAHOOOO!  No really...they fight.  My sister and I fought and I know we did it quite often using hair brushes and our nails...but these boys fight like CRAZY!  When I ask..."why did you do that to him?", I get "because HE did it to ME first!"  I can't tell you how many times I have said this summer..."please show your brother some respect!"

I came across this devotional  that I thought was somewhat perfect for the boys...and for all of us.

You probably learned the golden rule as a child: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” So often we take that verse and reword to say, “Do unto others as they do unto you.” We justify our actions because others treated us badly first. But God wants us to treat others the way we want to be treated before they do anything to us. He also wants us to treat others the way we want to be treated after others treat us unkindly.

As we strive to be more like Jesus, we need to make the traits and characteristics that he taught us more a part of our everyday lives. Jesus was kind, gracious, understanding, and patient. But how often do we treat those around us with those qualities? Today, make a list of the ways you wish others would treat you, and then strive to do the same

1 Peter 3:9

Don't repay evil for evil. Don't retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will bless you for it. (WayFM Life on the Way devotional)
Isn't that so true?  We justify our bad choices by blaming others for doing it "first".  Well, she snubbed me, so I am not going to talk to her anymore!  But what if that person was having a bad day?  What if that person didn't even see me...even though I think she did?  What if I have done something to her to justify her actions?  There is no better time than the present to turn things around for someone in need.  And if someone hurts your feelings, you do nothing, but love them back.  Because that is what God tells us to do.  That is part of understanding and passing on His love.

Okay all...have a wonderful day!

Blog Slacker

Hello blog friends...today I am a blog slacker.  But not for no reason at all.  You know how I get nervous when things begin to change...and life is changing again.  Coach will soon be returning to work.  The boys will be entering 3rd and 5th grade.  I will have NO kids in the primary school for the first time in 5 years.  I cannot even begin to tell you how anxious I am right now.

When I get anxious...I move furniture.  However...the changes occurring in the next month are bigger than usual so I called in a whole new kind of therapy.  Making over my room.  By "my" room...of course I mean "our" room.  But Coach knows and has known from the very beginning of this marriage...it is really "my" room.  I think he is fine with it because we have had probably 15 different bedspreads and comforters since we got married almost twelve years ago.  Today...we made changes.  We painted walls.  Now I also want you to know that by "we"...I of course mean "Coach" painted walls.  I occasionally moved stools around for him and did a little trimming...accompanied by nervously eating CheezIts. (Reduced fat...of course)

So I wanted to apologize for having nothing motivating or Godly about this post.  I am simply writing to explain my absence and in doing that...I am adding a picture of part of our newly done room.  On the bed, you'll notice two items in front of the red decorative pillow.  Diet pepsi and my fav. little pint of ice cream.  Yep...that's right.  Ice cream.  Oh well...tomorrow's a new day.  For today I'll eat CheezIts and ice cream and life will be good.  Tomorrow...things change.  Today I will enjoy every second...who knows what tomorrow will bring.  Tonight...I'll have a pretty room and ice cream.  Ahhhhhh.....

Have a good night and I promise to be better tomorrow!

All Things Are Possible

So...this morning I got up at 3:45am and left for the airport with my sister and her family at 4:45am.  We were dropping them off for their family vacation to California.  My niece and nephew are very special to me and I wanted to see them off for their first big trip.  They have never flown before and they were so excited.  My sister was excited too, but her nerves outweighed her excitement when we left.  Anyone who knows her is not at all surprised by this statement.  They are well on their way and I can't wait to hear all about it when they return.  Please put them in your prayers today as they travel.  Thanks!

Coach and I were sitting on the porch yesterday talking about how Summer is quickly coming to a close.  The calm (using that term loosely), laid back way of living is about to be over.  We are weeks away from enrollment, football practice and the beginning of school.  I can't even believe how fast it has gone.  Life is about to get busy...busier that it already is.  But one thing I have learned this summer is that with God...anything is possible.

Before Logan's surgery and Kjerstin's accident, I tended to think along the lines of 'God's Will Be Done'.  And that is exactly how it is and should be.  But watching the miracles come one after another in the lives of these two kids has been amazing and my thinking has changed a bit.  Yes...God's Will is what will be done...but we cannot forget that miracles can happen.  Because with God...anything is possible.  I know that our lives are about to change again...and for those of you who know me...so will my furniture.  But I know that in the moments of complete chaos...I can go to my knees.  Because anything is possible with God.  He can calm the storm within me.  He can take away my insecurities.  He can help me see what is important and what isn't.  No...he can't keep me from burning almost everything that goes in my oven, but He can help me when things get out of hand.

I wanted to add a song to my playlist today that we used to listen to when the kids were little...I mean, my big kids.  I think it is completely appropriate for what I am trying to say.  All things are possible.

Phillipians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me

Can you?
Have a Blessed Day!

I got 'nothin'

There are days when I get up and think...what am I going to write about?  I have mini panic attacks because I know my friends out in Western Kansas are early risers and I can't seem to get the words typed in fast enough! Just kidding...:)

But there are days when there are not words.  I just sit.  I think.  I pray.  In the silence of my temporarily quiet house.  Asking God to put on my heart whatever it is He needs someone to hear today.  And today...I just thought about this song.  It is so relevant to that exact point.

I'm finding myself at a loss for words
And the funny thing is...it's okay
The last thing I need
Is to be heard
But to hear, what You would say

Word of God Speak
Would you pour down like rain
Washing my eyes to see your majesty
To be still and know
That You're in the this place
Please let me stay and rest, in Your Holiness
Word of God Speak

Lord, when I struggle to come up with the words, help me to listen...to hear what it is You want to be heard and not what I might come up with.  If there are no words for me to share today, let my actions speak of Your love.  Let my every move be a reflection of You, so that they know, You are alive in my heart.
Amen

Have a Blessed Day All!

Good Good Good

Yesterday, our son Brett, played in a benefit baseball tournament for Carl Hall.  Carl is a former WSU baseball player, Husband and Father who was critically injured in a car accident a few weekends ago.  The Derby Tigers are a team that plays in our league and through their own personal experiences with Carl, decided to put on a tournament to raise money for his family.

It

was

Awesome.

The tournament was great.  I believe there were 24 teams that played in the tournament and each of the teams donated an item to raffle off during the BBQ portion of the fundraiser.  They sold tickets for a general auction, had a live auction, had the raffle, sold tickets for the BBQ dinner and took donations only at the gate.  What a set up...there were tickets, volunteers and people EVERYWHERE.  And it was 102 degrees on my van thermometer on my way to Brett's 2nd game of the day.  It was sweltering outside...and yet so many people came together.

I can't even begin to tell you how moving it was walking up to the tent where the auction and BBQ was to take place last  night.  I am a total softy.  My emotions are constantly out there...and generally my tears are just waiting for an excuse to come flowing.  As soon as I walked up to the music (Rascal Flatts) they came.  Tears.  I was standing there trying to compose myself so that no one would think something was wrong...when up came the wife of the man who was behind the entire idea/production of the tournament.  (She happens to be the same PA that stitched up Brady's head about a month back AND a good friend of my sisters).  All it took was a hug...and we were both fighting the tears.  It was amazing.  The people...the amount of money they had raised at that point alone...it was just Good.  There are not words to describe what was in the air last night...other than Goodness.  It was yet another instance of a community coming together for the greater good of someone in need.  And I was blessed to be a part of it.

I was thinking yesterday about all the bad things that have happened in the last few months and how much good has come out of those bad things.  People coming together...people coming to Christ.  I have said it a million times...I don't understand.  I don't get His plan at all.  But last night was another glimpse of what He has in store for our lives.  I went to pick up my 'God is Good All the Time' bracelets in support of the Kjerstin Webb fund Friday evening and the girl that is in charge of that fundraiser had set up a table outside of a local restaurant in Derby.  It was 100 degrees outside...and there she was.  Giving up her time...for someone else.  Selfless.  Showing God's love right there in the absolute heat of the day...to help someone else in their time of need.  Amazing.

Thank you Lord for blessing me with the people in my life that are willing to do good whenever called upon.  Thank you for placing the good on their hearts and for allowing others to witness your love through them.  You are Awesome...and I stand in awe of You.

Have a Blessed Day!
Amy
Here are a few pics of our evening of giving. Thanks Jags for a great day!

I almost forgot the best part!  Logan was there!!!  Logan and his parents walked up and again...the tears started flowing.  Logan...we are so glad you are home and are doing well.  The prayers will continue for you as I know the recovery is a long road.  But we are glad you are back and so glad to be a part of TEAM LOGAN!!!

Beautiful Christian Sister

Got this from a friend today via email.  Love Love Love it.  Thought I would share it for all of you to see.  In my opinion it is so true.

Thank you Carol.  You are a good friend.

BEAUTIFUL CHRISTIAN SISTER

When I say that 'I am a Christian', I am not shouting that 'I am clean living -

I'm whispering 'I was lost, but now I'm found and forgiven.'

When I say 'I am a Christian' I don't speak of this with pride-

I'm confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say 'I am a Christian' I'm not trying to be strong -

I'm professing that I'm weak and need His strength to carry on.

When I say 'I am a Christian' I'm not bragging of success -

I'm admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.

When I say 'I am a Christian' I'm not claiming to be perfect -

My flaws are far too visible, but God believes I am worth it.

When I say 'I am a Christian' I still feel the sting of pain -

I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.

When I say 'I am a Christian' I'm not holier than thou –

I'm just a simple sinner who received God's good grace, somehow!

Change of Plans

Expectations.

Should we have them?

Should we not?

If we didn't, would we be less disappointed in things when they don't turn out the way we think they will?

Sometimes in life, we expect that things will always just 'be'.  Be good...be the same...be normal.  When out of nowhere...things change.  Unexpectedly.  Without warning.  And we are disappointed.  Even though maybe...just maybe...the change is for the better.  We react poorly to change...I know I do.  And when we have those moments, we act as if we have no faith.  That just because things aren't going as WE planned...we think they are wrong.

My favorite verse...all time favorite is Jeremiah 29:11.

"For I know the plans I have for you", declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Know why?

Because the Lord...MY God...is saying to me...
I have a plan for you Amy.  Plans for you to succeed in life...plans for you to have hope and a future.  They may not always be the plans you set for yourself, but child...I have plans for you.  Trust me.  When you can't see where you are going...trust my plan for you.  When things change unexpectedly...trust my plan for you.  When normal is not normal anymore...trust my plan for you.  Because I have a plan for your life.
Thank you Lord for reminding me tonight that no matter what changes come forth in my life and in the life of my family...that you are behind the plan.  And trusting in you renews my faith.  Trusting in your very words Lord...gives me the strength to face the new day...no matter what challenges lie ahead.

Have a wonderful night!

Winning isn't Everything

Winning isn't everything...unless of course you are Ricky Bobby...or Coach.  Okay, that isn't completely true.  Winning is EXTREMELY important to the love of my life...but even HE knows that it isn't everything.  I think that walking away from a game victorious would be such a great feeling.  But walking away knowing you are still of good character is even better.

Life can get so complicated when competing is involved.  I am not a competitive person...at all.  But I do love when the boys get a win.  I love it more when they come away feeling confident and accomplished.  That hasn't happened that often this baseball season, but I feel like Brett has learned so much more.  He has developed lasting friendships.  He has developed skills for the future.  He has learned the hard way about throwing fits and pouting when things don't go well for him on the field.  He has learned how it feels to strike out and to hit it to the outfield.  I think you have to do both before you understand the true glory behind the win.

You have to strike out.

You have to miss ground balls.

You have to overthrow the ball a few times.

It builds character.  To fail...to learn through the failure...and then to succeed.  You also have to learn through disappointment.  You have to sit on the bench every now and again.  You have to move up and down in the batting order every once in awhile.  You have to learn through those moments from the actions that put you in that place.  That is part of life.  We don't grow up succeeding time after time.  None of us do.  In fact, most of us fail time after time...until we learn to do it right.  And through the failure and disappointment, we learn to appreciate the victory even more.  Because we know what it feels like to sit on the bench.  We know what it feels like to make a perfect stop and then completely botch the play by overthrowing the ball.  We become so overconfident with one move that we mess up the next by letting our egos get in the way.  It doesn't just happen on the baseball fields to 10 year olds.  It happens to all of us...daily.

Brett (and Tanner)...I hope you have learned more this year about life than about baseball.  I hope you know that the stands were full of people cheering you on and that no matter what you did...you learned from it.  I hope that you get the chance next year to play ball...having successes and failures...and that you'll look back on your summer baseball years as the best times of your life.

Good luck this weekend JAGS!  We are playing in a benefit tournament for a coach of another team we played.  He was  recently in a car accident and was paralyzed.  Talk about importance in life.  We are playing in this tournament to help raise money for a family that lost their 'normal'.  Life as they know it has changed.  I am proud to be a part of something for them...and I hope that Brett scores big from this experience.  Not on the field...but in his heart.  I can't think of anything more important than teaching him about community coming together to help a family in need.  Coach and coaches might disagree, but this weekend is not about the scoreboard.  It is about life.  For more information on the tournament or how you can help, please go to the Carl Hall tournament information facebook page here.  Thanks!

Have a Blessed Day!

Ask, Seek, Knock

'stepping up to soap box'
(Clear throat)
Since when did tank tops get so skinny?  Why is that an up and coming trend?  And why did that trend come about AFTER I had kids?  Doesn't anyone know that after you have given birth, your body is never the same?  What once was slim and trim is now soft and squishy...everything shifts down...and skinny tank tops just don't look good.  I have tried.  I have purchased tank tops from Old Navy...Target...Gap...Maurices...all the same result.  Skinny from top to bottom.  I can see buying a skinny tank top in the Junior section, but I am not one that even glances in the direction of the Jr. section anymore.  I realize there are some "skinny from top to bottom" women in this world, but the majority of us would agree...Skinny Tank Tops have GOT TO GO.

'stepping down from soap box'

I wanted to share my opinion about my skinny tank tops before I give them all away.  I feel better and LONG LIVE THE OVER SIZED T-SHIRT.

So today is going to be busy for me.  Lots to do and it will be hard to say no to the invitation of the sun.  We played in the pool yesterday and had a blast...but the house is in need of some TLC.  Some days I look around and am simply overwhelmed by my to do list.  Laundry, Cleaning, Cooking, Organizing, Scrapbooking, Exercising, Making Beds...etc.  I found this in an insert in our bulletin and I wanted to share it with you.

First Step

Because I am God's child, He is concerned about every aspect of my life.  I like those three verbs in Luke 11:9: "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you".  "Ask", "Seek", and "Knock" are words of action for us.  Even as much as we long to be rescued from problems, we are still responsible for the results.  The Lord has promised to help us, to direct us, but we still have to take that first step in faith.

He's standing by us, waiting for us to ask Him to help us juggle all our scary responsibilities.  And as we do, we will find that wonderful experiences are ahead for us-if we'll just allow the Lord to give them to us.

(Sandra P. Aldrich, From One Single Mother to Another)

I am not a single Mother, but I think we all feel sometimes like we  in over our heads.  If we remember that God is there to help us, we'll accomplish our tasks with more satisfaction.

Have a blessed day!

Bring on the BIG GUNS

So me and my little ones were swimming in the backyard.  We were minding our own business when all of a sudden a gang of 10 year olds crashed our pool party.  They looked mean.  Very intimidating.

They pulled out their guns.

They came after us.  I did what I had to do to protect the kids.  I got them all Popsicles.  They seemed content to just sit and eat...so I took action on the misfits.

Then...out of nowhere...they came after me.

I ran like a well trained athlete...you can tell by the placement of my hands.  I know what the boys were thinking...
This lady is good.  How are we going to catch her when she is in such good shape?  She is just like a deer gliding through the back yard.  (My story...my details)
They were gaining on me...so I did what any loving Mother would do in this situation.

I tackled and sat on my oldest child and sprayed him directly in the face with water until he cried for Mercy.

I am such a good parent.  :)

Have a Blessed Day!

So

Psalms 107: 1-3

1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;
his love endures forever.
2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say this—
those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,
3 those he gathered from the lands,
from east and west, from north and south

Yesterday at church was wonderful.  We had such a God led service and I felt so moved by the end.  PR put something on facebook Sat. night and this is what it said.

"is home from Omaha. Tomorrow - 1 baptism, 2 dedications, 5 joining the church. "Let the redeemed of the Lord say so!!"

Let the redeemed of the Lord say so...

We had three youth give testimonies from their Summer experiences, my Sister and Brother in law joined the church...my niece and nephew were dedicated and we saw a young girl baptised by her own decision.  It was beautiful to say the least.  We sang one of my favorite songs (Shout to the Lord) and as PR would say..."God was in the House".  It was a great service and it truly made up for the 14-5 loss for my oldest son at state baseball the day before.  :)  Baseball has been cramping our church style a little lately and even though we aren't sure what to do about it as a family...we were so glad to be in church yesterday.  So, so glad.

Way to go PR...it was a great service.  And it got me thinking..."let the redeemed of the Lord say so"...if you have a faith story that you'd like to share, please do.  I would love to hear it.  This week, I'll sit down and write a little about mine.  If you are redeemed...and you feel compelled to share...do it!

Have a great Monday all!

Not the Obvious

Hearing what God is saying isn't always an obvious thing.  We face big decisions in our lives and we ask Him through prayer to 'show us a sign' or to make us see which way to go more clearly.  What I have figured out is that God doesn't always make it black and white.  He guides us gently...and pushes us by putting things on our hearts.  We know that if it is in His plan, it will work out.  If it isn't, we'll learn along the way to appreciate the things we took for granted.

When Coach and I were first married, he worked for the City of Derby.  He had gone to school to be a teacher and after graduation, couldn't find a job.  He had worked summers at the City going through school and had a friend that got him a job there when nothing else was available.  We met, dated and married all while he was working at the City.  Then we had Brett.  We became friends with a couple who had a little boy that was the same age, and the Dad happened to be a teacher and coach at the Middle School here in Mulvane.  The more we got to know them, the more Coach felt the push to get back into teaching.  He started slow with some Rule 10 coaching.  Eventually, he know where his heart wanted to be.  He was raised by two teachers, and had gone to school to do exactly that.  But when he was ready, the job wasn't there for him.  The City of Derby was so good to him.  The people he met there were wonderful and became like family to us.  The insurance was incredible and we were able to have Brett and eventually Tanner, with little cost out of pocket.  There were many blessings from that job...and it was very hard for him to leave when the time came.

While he was coaching and working for the City, he interviewed for a job in Mulvane.  It was an English position and Coach was prepared to go back to school to get certified in whatever he would need.  He didn't get that job.  A few months later, a Special Ed job came available and he was going to try for that as well...all the while knowing he'd need more schooling.  The job was filled before he even got a chance to apply, if I remember correctly.  He was crushed.  He was angry.  He was frustrated beyond belief.  He wanted more than anything to teach and coach, and the door would not open for him.  In 2003,  he got a call that a 7th Social Studies/Computers job was available.  Brett was starting preschool, and Tanner was not a new baby.  It would have been very hard on our family for us to have a new baby and for Coach to start a new teaching job.  He put his heart and his soul...and all of our spare time into planning his lessons and making his classroom his own.  Needless to say, he got the job.  It was perfect timing...even though at the time, Coach couldn't see his plan.

Coach had to leave his comfort zone completely.  What if teaching wasn't what he thought it would be?  What if the difference in money would cause our family problems?  What if this wasn't the move he was supposed to be making?  What if, what if, what if?

He was so frustrated when it didn't work out the way WE wanted it to.  Even though now...seven years later...we see why.  We know why God waited to present him with that opportunity.  It was in His perfect timing...not ours.  The idea of going back to teaching was put on Coach's heart by God.  It wasn't something that Coach just thought of.  It was placed there strategically by God.  And it was a long and frustrating path...but worth every step.  He is now very comfortable in his job.  He is touching the lives of many students and athletes and we are so blessed to have the opportunity to watch him do what he loves.  I can't imagine anything different for our lives even though at the time we weren't sure how to take what He was saying to us.

I thank God everyday for allowing us the opportunity for Coach to do what he loves and for what he taught us along the way.  Leaving his job at the City was very scary...

but the risk was worth the reward

More than we ever thought possible.  After leaving Derby and taking that risk, we were blessed with another member of our family that we never saw coming.  Life isn't always love and hugs around here, but we are forever thankful for the life we've been given and for following His path...even when we had doubts.

Have a blessed day!

My Favorite Verse

Today on Kelly's Korner blog it is Show Us Your Life Friday and her topic today is favorite bible verse.  I have been reading through some of the ones that were left earlier today and would encourage you to do the same.  Verses have different meanings for all of us, but it is amazing what you can learn from the heart of other Christians.  Thanks Kelly!

My Favorite Verse can be found at the top left corner of my blog...and hanging on a sign in my kitchen for all to see.  If only they would always look at the sign and NEVER see the mess on the counters below.  :)  Have a blessed day!

I still believe

I still believe in your faithfulness
I still believe in your truth
I still believe in your holy word
Even when I don't see, I still believe...

But what do I believe?

I believe that God is the same God before our tragedies as He is after.  I believe that at all times God has our best interest at heart.  Even when bad things happen, they happen so that we can learn and grow...all the while knowing He loves us enough to never leave us.  I believe there are moments in life where the only thing we have left to hang onto is hope...no matter how hopeless a situation may seem.  I believe that in the last two weeks I have been taught one very important lesson.  NEVER under estimate the power of the Lord.  Prayer is a powerful tool.  More powerful than I ever gave it credit.  I believe in my heart that God knows our path long before we set forth on it.  A group of people gathering together to pray for one purpose...and praising Him...is exactly what He needs from us.  To know that in times of dark we believe He is the light.  I believe that trusting Him doesn't mean never getting upset or frustrated.  I believe that loving Him has taught me to love everyone in a different way.  I believe that no matter the outcome of Kjerstin's accident, I'll always believe that he played a HUGE part in healing Her...all the while healing the souls of those around her.

I used to say "I'll pray for you" or "I am praying for you."  And I meant it.  But now...I mean it more.  When I say those words...they are not just four or five words.  They are a commitment.  They are the only comfort I know how to give.  I believe that by my praying...He hears me.  He hears my every word.  And I know that I know that I know...that His plan will be the final outcome.  And I trust Him.  Even when I don't see...

I still believe.

Have a blessed weekend!

Did I say something wrong?

Last night, coach and I decided to take the boys to dinner and to do some shopping.  We don't do that very often with our ball game schedule so it was kind of a nice getaway for our little family.  We stopped at the mall for some new sunglasses for Coach and to get my wedding ring cleaned.  I can't actually remember the last time I had that done and it looks beautiful.  Of course, the person working added that after 12 years I deserved another diamond band and at least a bigger center diamond.  I agreed...Coach did not.  Oh well...worth a shot.  After our short trip to the mall, we ended up at Dicks Sporting Goods looking for some 'slide' shoes for Brett.  Those would be the flip flops without the "toe thing" in the middle.  He is very particular and didn't like that one bit.  After that we hit Cheddar's for dinner and then headed home.  On our way up to Wichita, I received a text from my friend Stephanie letting me know that Kjerstin had opened her eyes.  Coach and I talked about the excitement the family must be feeling and that we didn't know what to think.  Medically, there is so much negativity.  But somehow (with God) she is defying the odds.  And it confuses me.  In reading this book that I have mentioned the last few days, I am learning how God helps people cope in times of grief and sorrow.  The story itself is so sad...yet the meaning behind what this family learned is amazing.

After Stephanie and I texted a few times, I just broke down into tears.  Coach said..."Did I say something wrong?"  I replied, "No...I am just frustrated."  I was so confused at that very moment and just kind of lost it for a few seconds.  Not for long, because I didn't want the boys to think something was wrong.  I just let my emotions get the best of me.  I needed for God to see that I just don't understand.  Why do some families have peace and others have sorrow?  Why do some families have their loved ones spared while others grieve the loss of someone so near and dear to their hearts?  And then I get upset with myself because I feel like I have a pretty good grip on my faith...and then I have those moments.  When the tears well up and I just want answers.  Answers that I know I won't get here on earth.  It isn't about the loss...it is about the hurt.  I don't know Kjerstin at all...but I know and love her family.  Their hurt weighs heavy on my heart and I just would like to have something more to give.

And then I am gently reminded that peace is not mine to give.  It is His.  And He will give them peace.

Philippians 4:4-7

4Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

And the peace of God which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your heart.

After reading that verse...I was again at peace with God.  The decisions He is making.  The path He is choosing for those around me.  I cannot change it.  I cannot make it better.  But I can pray and trust and love...in His name.  And I know that the peace that surrounds these people...that I cannot understand...is brought forth by Him.

Have a Blessed Day.

Weak and Broken

Latest post from TEAM LOGAN...

Okay this morning at 8am Logan going in for his Heart Cath and Biopsy!!! Please say a prayer that all goes well!!! I will keep you posted!! We won't know any results until around 5pm!!! Thank you all!!!

Please pray for Logan today!!!

Please click on the link Prayers for Kjerstin to the right of the post for updates on how she is doing.  Yesterday's post was a harsh reality of the journey they have ahead of them.  Life as they know it has changed.  They as a family are changing.  We all know that change can be so difficult so just prayers for them as they go through the next steps of making Kjerstin better.

I am still reading the book 'I Will Carry You' by Angie Smith.  I love it.  I absolutely love how real and open she is with her relationship with God during the darkest time of her life.  One of the things I have heard lately that is so reassuring is that it is okay to have doubts.  I think a lot of people have a misconception of what it is like to be a Christian.  Christians are not perfect.  They are not all knowing and all believing...all of the time.  We have our moments.  We have our doubts.  We have our fall on the floor fits with God and He is always there.  There is a part of this book that I read yesterday that I wanted to share with you...really made me feel like I understood.  I have so done this myself.  Maybe not in the same situation that Angie did...but you'll see what I mean.

You can do it, God.  If you wanted to you could fix her.  "FIX HER, FIX HER...Oh Lord, fix her."  It was storming out and the windshield wipers cleared just enough rain for me to see the road, I let myself shout until I was weak.  I continued to shake for the rest of the drive, and it was one of the first times I remember really allowing myself to feel the unbelievable agony I was facing.  It was also one of the first times I sensed Him being right there.
All-knowing.
Perfect.
Redeemer.
The one who can.
I embraced something that night that I will never forget, and it has continued to shape my walk with Him.  He isn't threatened by my heartbreak and questioning any more than he is threatened by a rainstorm.  He knows that rain will fall.  He knows that I will fall.
And so on the way home, I gave my deepest hurt to the Father who wanted nothing less than every bit of it.  What I needed to learn about myself was clear in that moment.  I did believe in Him enough to call out.  I trusted Him to share the brokeness, even though he already knew it all. (Angie Smith, I Will Carry You)

We all have those moments of doubt and weakness.  But as Angie said...if we believe enough to go to Him...we still believe.  He wants us to share our moments of brokeness.  He wants those times to be with us as we wipe our tears and fight to understand the path that we are on.  He is there with us the whole way.  God never promised us that bad things wouldn't happen.  But He did promise to always be there...to never forsake us.

I think the more people realize that it is okay to have moments of imperfections and weaknesses as a Christian, the better off we'll all be.  We learn so much in those moments.  God needs us to have them to become stronger in Him.

Okay all...off to clean today.  Ugh.  Have a blessed Wednesday!

Sunset

Last night I left my house at around 8:45pm to go to my sister's house.  We have a group of friends that get together to watch the Bachelor.  We've done it for years and it has become more about our need for girl time than our like for the show.  I look forward to every Monday evening and we really have a great time.  So..last night, I was driving to Chele's and the clouds were so cool looking.  I am not a photographer at all, but I really wanted you to see what I saw through my windshield last night.  It was so pretty and I felt like it was significant to the world that surrounds us today.

Now please keep in mind I am NOT a photographer like my sister and I was hanging out the side of my van window trying to take this picture because my GPS was blocking the view every time I took it from inside.  But the view was amazing.  (P.S.~my car was stopped)

I was in such a zone when I left my house because I had been reading this book that I would highly recommend to anyone.  Down to the right of my blogs posts is my 'Blogs I follow and love' list.  Bring the Rain is one of the very first blogs I ever read and it was suggested to me by my sister.  I absolutely love Angie (the writer that I have never and probably won't ever meet) and the way she is so open with her Faith.  She is actually what inspired me to write a blog myself.  She has over 6,000 followers on her page and I thought...well, if she can do this so can I.  She writes about her life experiences and her love for Christ...and people want to know more.  She has a story to tell and others want to hear it...they NEED to hear it.  If you haven't read her blog, you should start now.  She is inspirational and hilarious all at the same time.  She just recently released a book called I Will Carry You, that tells her story.  You need to read this book.  I am just a few chapters in and love it.  I promise you won't be sorry.  Okay...I am  off roading here...back to the point.  I had just put the book down to go to my sisters and my mind was wondering.  Thoughts of Angie and her story...thoughts of Christ...and as I drove mindlessly across the neighborhood, I saw the beautiful sunset in front of me.  My windshield was covered in raindrops that were in the way of my view, but I could still see it.  I knew immediately that God was talking to me through the scenery.  To the right (North) of me were some nasty looking storm clouds.  To the south was lightning...cloud to ground.  In front of me was this beautiful picture of clouds lifting up over the sunset.  The clouds that threatened a storm were underlined by the beautiful sky.  The sun had already set, but the glow was still there.  You couldn't actually see it, but it reflected its light on the stormy clouds around it.  I knew that I was being reminded that behind all of the clouds and lightening was God.  We can't always see Him.  But we see His light being reflected onto the storms in life by those who love Him.  Those who want to share His love.  And it is incredible.

I know what you must be thinking...really?  You saw God's love in the clouds?  I know because I was thinking...Are you talking to me God?  I searched and searched for my camera that I just knew was in the car with me.  Couldn't find it.  So I whipped my car around to head home to grab it.  I so badly wanted you all to see the clouds so you could understand what I was seeing.  As I turned around, I saw it.  To the East was a little bitty rainbow.  Not a full rainbow, but a hint of one.  I knew at that moment that God was speaking to me.  He was saying...yes Amy...I am talking to you

Sometimes I think we are in disbelief during tough times that so many people will come together to do good.  So many people will do things out of the kindness of their hearts and that isn't just a coincidence.  That is God calling on them and those people being obedient to His call.  It isn't so hard to believe that in the midst of our storms, that others would be called to come together.  Those people are the light of Christ.  You can't see Him, but you CAN see his reflection.  Those people are the break in the clouds that surround us in times of trouble.  They are the light of Him and it is simply amazing to watch.  Even through the raindrops on our windshield...we see it and we know He is there.  Thank you God for showing yourself in so many ways.

Have a Blessed Day.

Tired

Well it is 6:45am and I am getting ready to go work my last shift at the fireworks stand.  Ugh.  Between Coach and myself, we've put in over 50 hours selling fireworks...and that is minimal in comparison to what some families put in.  This time last week, I was already sitting there wondering when 8:00am would arrive.  My shift today is from 8am-10am and I cannot wait until it is over.  No more fireworks.  No more wet, muddy, mucky fireworks tent.  No more lines of people wanting to blow things up.  No more worrying about the boys getting hurt or holding Brady with his hands over ears.  No more star shaped sugar cookies...thank goodness...and No more fireworks!!!  After tonight of course.  The boys still have a few little things to light off and we'll be doing that in a hurry in between rain showers today.

Watching the boys last night though made me realize how much they are growing up.  We have some pictures of them at past 4th of July parties and seeing them run around with their friends last night made me realize that time is just flying by.  I remember Brett's 1st 4th...he was such a fun age.  We went swimming and did some little fireworks, followed by a bbq at my In laws house.  The next year, we announced at our own 4th of July party that we'd be having another little "sparkler" in February of 02.  The next few years we spent at the sand pit with some very good friends of ours and with our family.  Lots of good times and memories out there...lots.  In the past few years we've gone between our friends party here in town and our neighborhood because it is crazy.  You would have to see it to believe it, but there are soooo many fireworks going off in this one area.  And for those of us who are less than "loving" them...it is kind of a long night.  I don't mind the big ones, but the ones that the kids light off make me a nervous wreck.

But...

It is such a wonderful time of year.  Friends and Family gathering together to celebrate not only the freedom of our Country, but each other.  We had a wonderful 4th and I am so glad we all made it through.  Today I ask that you continue to pray for Kjerstin.  She is in need of a miracle and I hope that you will join me in praying.  Also, Logan has been released from the hospital and is doing well!  There is a chance he'll get to return to Derby sooner than they thought...which is just incredible.  So lots of prayers for continued progress for him.  And finally...under my 'Blogs I follow and love' list is the link to the Road to Mercy blog.  This is a family here in Mulvane that is adopting a little girl named Mercy from Uganda.  They are selling shirts to help with the cost and I love mine.  If you are interested...click HERE.  Please read their story...what they are doing is incredible and I would ask all of you to pray for Mercy's safe arrival here in the United States.  Thanks and have a Blessed Monday!

Faith

First of all, let me say Happy 4th of July to everyone!  Thanks to all who make our Freedom possible.  I believe we all know that Freedom isn't free.  We are so grateful to those who fight and protect this country.  Thank you for all that you do!

So today I was driving and thinking about a note that I received from a new friend the other day.  The note talked about finding Christ through tragedy when we'd given up on him all together.  So I decided to talk a little about restored faith.

I don't know a person out there that hasn't at some point or another turned their back on God.  Usually it is followed by losing someone or something extremely important.  We are so quick to say Thank you Lord for the blessings...and WHERE ARE YOU GOD? in the bad times.  I told this friend of mine that Coach asked that question to a friend of his a while back and the answer was so true...

God is in the exact same place that He was when His son was on the cross.

Sometimes I think we forget that He too has been through the storm.  God doesn't want us to hurt...He doesn't want us to turn from Him...in fact, He desires us to grow through those times as better Christians.  Yet, some stray.  Some wander into life without Him.  That is the thing...when we are young Christians, I think we have a different view on being "saved".  We think that by asking Jesus into our hearts we won't suffer any pain...go through any sad times.  And that isn't true at all.  What it means is that HE is with us the entire time.  Good and Bad.  And that in the end, we'll see why we went through those times in our lives.

If you can just for a second...think back to some of the worst times in your life...and then look forward.  What did you learn?  How did you come about learning that?  It isn't always that we are ready to give credit to Him, but when you reach that point in your Christianity...you see it.  Clarity.  You understand it.  You know that without pain and suffering, we wouldn't know what He went through or how much He loves us.  Storms in life change who we are.  And that is scary.  We don't necessarily want to change...but God knows we need to.  Tough times make us look at everything differently.  We re-evaluate.  We re-arrange our lives.  We re-prioritize our priorities. We renew the commitments we have made to the ones we love the most. And most importantly, we re-store our faith.  We come to realize that He is the only thing we have to hold onto...and we cling tightly.  And when we reach the point where we made it through the storm, hopefully we realize how we made it and spread that love to others who might not know it is there.

Today, think about your relationship with Christ.  Does it need to be restored?  Renewed?  Do it.  That is all I've got.  Do it.  I am and I think we all should.  Have a blessed day!

Thank Goodness...it is Friday

This has been a crazy week...to say the least.  It started last weekend when we went to the Wedding in Kansas City.  Anytime you leave town, you create work for yourself.  When we arrived back home the very next day, we were greeted with the mess that we left and laundry for five people.  Even for one day, that can create several loads as Brady likes to "switch uniforms" several times during the day.  Sunday, we received the news about Kjerstin as we were driving home from Kansas City.  Since then, I don't feel like I can fully concentrate on any one thing.  The night we got home from KC, I had to work the fireworks stand and then had to go back the next morning from 4am to 8am.  We cannot sell any fireworks at that time, but my friend Julie and I signed up for that shift and I am still not completely sure why.  I am pretty sure it is because I have been working out and felt I could take on anyone who tried to get away with some of our fireworks...NOT EVEN TRUE...not in the slightest.  Julie and I had actually come up with a plan to run screaming into the night like a couple of school girls...and luckily...we never had to act that out.    The next day, we had another schedule that mirrored Sundays, but I also had to work in between fireworks shifts.  Coach took shifts during the day, and I took them at night and in the early morning.  It has been one of the longest weeks we've had in a long time.  We are both exhausted...and haven't been communicating at all.

This week we also learned of the accident that included Carl Hall...a former WSU baseball player and coach of one of the teams that Brett plays in his league out at West Urban.  First of all, please pray for his family and his recovery.  He is alive and I know that everyone is so grateful for that.  However, he is now paralyzed from the waist down I believe and that will be a complete life change for that family as well.  When we got the news of this accident it knocked me down just another notch.  I felt like we couldn't seem to get out from the dark cloud that was looming over us.  And not that in any way am I saying that Coach and the boys and I are personally affected...but our brothers and sisters are...and it weighs us down in the process.  Any time people are hurting, we hurt too...to carry a portion...just a fraction of that load for them.  And I would gladly do that for any of our friends and family...and even strangers as we dont' know the Halls at all.  But it just started to feel a little overwhelmingly sad.

I prayed the other night and started out with...God, can you hear me?  I have been praying for these people and it seems as if bad things just continue to happen one after another.  Are you there?  I know you have a plan and I know I have to trust you...but could you show us you are still here?  Because I am afraid people are wondering where you are right now....me included.

And it was the next day that I received a phone call from a friend about Logan.  Logan could possibly be released from the hospital...today.  It took me a minute to absorb and process the news...and then finally I was able to say...Thank you God

Thank you for the miracle you have performed in Logan.  Thank you for showing us that you ARE there and that you ARE listening.  Thank you for showing us a little positive and for making your moves big enough for the world to notice.

Last night I checked Kjerstin's site and it said that she moved her head from side to side...and I wondered...what are you doing up there God?  Whatever it is...we are loving it.   Thank you for the small miracles...for the big miracles...and even for the moments in the storm when we can't fully follow you, but know that you are there.

Have a blessed day all!

Why Not?

Last night while I was working the fireworks stand, my friend Karon and I started talking about all that has been going on around us with the accidents, the death of a dear friend of hers and Logan's heart transplant.  We were discussing the whys of what has been happening and what we would like to ask God when we get to Heaven.

I was updating Karon on Kjerstin's MRI results and told her that I wasn't even sure what to pray for anymore.  She agreed that it seemed like an uphill battle, but she reminded me of something that I may have forgotten this week.

God is a miracle worker.

Sometimes I pray for his will.  Sometimes I pray that the family will not have to suffer anymore pain.  I wanted so many times to pray for a miracle...but the realistic side of me was getting in the way.  The prognosis for Kjerstin has been grim since she got to the hospital on Sunday...the Dr.s didn't give her much of a chance to live...the family was devastated beyond belief...and I just prayed that God would be with them.  Just be with them...wrap your arms around them and catch them as they fall.  Stand for them when they cannot...cry with them...help them to find peace in whatever the situation.  Not once did I pray for that miracle.  I was reminded last  night that our God is a miracle worker.  And I thought to myself...
Why haven't I prayed for a miracle?  Why haven't I put my faith the very God who created this child to save her?  Why did I not ask him to save her life?

I think I was so focused on praying for God to be with those hurting around Kjerstin that I forgot to pray for God to heal her...physically and spiritually.  So here it is...to My God who is Mighty to Save...in whatever way he is going to save her...

Lord...I am praying that you perform one of your miracles in Kjerstin.  I am asking that if it is your will...for you to save her.  Help her to heal and help others come to you as you work in Kjerstin.  Allow this circumstance to glorify you and to bring Kjerstin the healing that she needs to come back to her family that loves her so much.  God, I believe in you.  I trust in you.  I know that you conquered the grave...and that with you...anything is possible.
Amen

One of my favorite worship songs is Mighty to Save by Hillsong.  I have added it to the playlist and I just ask that you listen to the words and allow yourself to find in Him what he is wanting you to find.  Have a blessed day!

Update on Kjerstin

For the latest update on Kjerstin, please click on the Praying for Kjerstin link to the right of this post.  It will take you to the blog that has been set up by Kjerstin's sister to update you on her latest condition and the results of the MRI from yesterday.

Please continue to pray for the family as the the road ahead of them is nothing like they ever expected it would be.  They are overwhelmed by the love and support that has been shown and if you would like to leave them a comment or a message telling them you are praying, please feel free to do so either here or on Kjerstin's page.

This week has really shown me that it is time to put life in perspective.  There are so many things that we worry about that 'just don't matter' in the grand scheme of things.  The Grand Scheme...seems to be something I will never understand...but these are the moments that define us as Christians.  Do we turn our backs when we don't understand?  Or do we trust Him more than ever because He is all that we have to hope for...food for thought.

Coffee with Mom and Dad this morning...I'll be back to post later.

Have a wonderful morning!
