The call

Understanding God's call can be a difficult thing to do.  People always say, "I felt called to do this" or "my calling was definitely that".  But what does that mean? What is a calling?

In my opinion, a call is the desire that God puts on your heart...that you maybe don't even understand.  I don't think God ever calls someone to do something and they just say...okay Lord...what do you need?  Usually there are some questions...some hesitation...and a list of reasons why we shouldn't follow His call.  AND there can be a misunderstanding of His call.  He can be telling us do do something with our lives and we totally misunderstand the direction we are to go. 

What are we called to do for God?  I believe we are called to do good.  We are called to love as He loves us.  We are called be kind and forgiving...to be whatever it is that He desires for us to be.  And many people have a calling...it isn't just in the ministry.  Some are called to be teachers and coaches.  Others are called to counsel.  Some are called to the medical field...everyone has a calling.  But if Christ is involved in the decisions you make, you are doing as He desires for you.  It may not be a baseball bat to the knees kind of call, but if you are listening to Him...truly listening, he'll tell you what you need to know to be the kind of person He desires you to be.

What are you called to do?  What is your passion?  Are you doing it?  Are you doing it for God or for yourself?  Food for thought.
