Big wants to ride his bike home from school. I am not exactly sure how long he has been putting together the speech he gave me last night, but it was a good ten minute explanation of why he should be considered old enough to ride his bike home. As the words spilled out of his mouth...immediately, I started coming up with reason after reason to say No. Not just No...but No...No way...No how.
Middle always thinks of elaborate plans to bring things from the outside, in. We have a frog in our back yard that has set up camp on an old mop sponge that happens to be floating in the red toy tote I have been looking for for three days. Middle is our creative soul. He loves to make things...and to pretend. So who knows what he was doing with the sponge to my kitchen mop and the toy tote. And now, a rather large frog has taken up residence on the sponge in the tote. He just floats around on it...kind of makes me laugh. Middle asked the other day if he could bring it all inside. No. No way...No how. Gives me the heeby jeebys just thinking about it.
Little had two cookies and some milk for his snack. Apparently two wasn't enough because when I went to our room for something and came back, he had three more by his cup of milk. He said..."I need more cookies, but I did it Mom." Okay...well...you can't have those cookies. "WWWWWHHHHHHYYYYYY?" Well because you'll get a tummy ache and we are having dinner in about one hour...and because I said so. (Personally love that one)
Sometimes as parents, we have to do the things that are right for our kids...even if they don't quite understand the answer. Having a large frog as a pet seems perfectly normal in their minds...but I am pretty sure I don't even have to explain why that would be a bad idea. Riding the bike home from school seems harmless and according to Big...we let him in the summer...we let him ride from the summer rec. program and it is just as far! Well, there isn't quite the traffic during the summer that comes along with the school year. And I am not prepared myself to sit at home and wonder/worry about when he'll make it.
I thought this verse was appropriate today because I don't know how many times I have asked God for things...that just didn't happen. I can't tell you how many things I have worked out in my head to be the perfect scenario of life...asked God to just follow "my" plan and then been disappointed when he went a different way. But just as I know what is best for Big, Middle and Little...He knows what is best for me. And He is doing everything in His power to keep me moving in the direction HE wants me to go. It is funny too...how things work out without my having a hand in them at all...
He has a plan for all of us. Right? Yes...He does.
Have a Blessed Day!
