Rain can be so theraputic. There is just something about waking up in the early morning to the sound of raindrops on your window. There is something about sitting on the couch and watching the rain fall onto the sidewalk. I love to hear the soft rolls of thunder (the loud ones...not sa much) and see the lightening (when it is far away in the sky). We have lots of thunderstorms here in Kansas and there are the ones you enjoy and the ones that make you wonder if you'll have a house in the morning. But usually after a rain, things look better. The grass is greener, the trees are blooming, and the sidewalk and streets are clean. Any dirt that had been tracked onto the path by my three little men, has been washed away after a storm. And when we go for long periods of time without rain, things become dry and not so pretty. The ground becomes hard and thirsty. The grass becomes brittle and brown. The flowers wilt and wither. The earth needs to be watered...and guess who knows that? God. He brings the rain in His timing...just like he does everything else. There are times when we are overwhelmed with life when I will just pray for rain so practices will be cancelled, and we can all have an evening together...at home. When those prayers go unanswered, it only shows me that life is in His hands. And when He does bring the rain, it is such a nice surprise and when we need it more than even we realize.
The song Healing Rain by Michael W. Smith really brings this point home. The Lord knows when we need to be rained on. He knows that His rain is spiritual and it brings peace and healing to so many.
Healing rain is coming down
It's coming nearer to this old town
Rich and poor, weak and strong
It's bringing mercy, it won't be long
Healing rain is coming down
It's coming closer to the lost and found
Tears of joy, and tears of shame
Are washed forever in Jesus' name
Let the healing rain wash you forever in His name. Allow the rain drops to signify something bigger. A cleansing from God that says...I have washed you and you are clean. I have forgiven you and I love you. It is amazing what we see through His eyes when we have Him in our hearts.
Have a blessed day!
Amy
