There is a picture of coach and I on the side of my blog that I called a "self pic". For anyone who doesn't understand this concept...you take your own picture. Some people (coach included) feel incredibly stupid posing for their own picture. Not me. I am and always have been just fine with people noticing me...right Mom? Anyhoo...I attempted to take a self pic with my three sons. Brady didn't feel like participating at that moment so the older boys and I took a picture.
Of course, as soon as "Brothers" and I took our picture, Brady wanted his taken too. However...Brady had developed what we kindly refer to as the "pirate smile". We are not exactly sure where this lovely trait came from, but it was here to stay. I want you to see the series of events that came next.
Hence the pirate smile.
Okay...let's try again.
So lowering my chin didn't help, but Tyra Banks would be so proud of my angle here.
Changing sides didn't help either.
We tried everything. I even had him say pizza instead of cheese and all we got was an open mouth pirate smile picture. After several takes, little man was done. After going through the pictures and getting a good laugh, we let it go.
Later that night, little man came to me and asked if he could try again with our "pitcher". And this is what we got. He looks absolutely adorable...I can say that because I am his Momma...and I look like...well...what I look like after a long day with this little man.
Yesterday, I told my little man he was my sunshine. And he grinned like in this picture. For the rest of the day he said he was my sunshine and started doing things to make me "happy". It is amazing how a little positive message to our kids can make them turn the day around. Kind of like God telling us..."I delight in you". Try it and see what happens! Blessings!

That's just too sweet...thank you for the reminder that we get what we give...i'm off to spread sunshine and a pirate smile!!! Happy Tuesday!
I LOVE the pirate smile! Brecken had a "special" smile at about that same age that lasted for a good year. When I look at the pictures from that year, I just shake my head (but it makes me smile too). Brecken and I have not been seeing eye to eye lately. She doesn't understand why a 5 year old can't wear makeup and jewelry to school. She doesn't understand why she can't take her doll and purse and 10 other thing to the grocery store and she cries hysterically when I tell her she can pick one thing. Every morning, I tell myself I'm going to stay positive all day and NOT YELL! This usually lasts til 8:15 when we're running out the door for school. I'm getting ready to pick Brecken up from school at 11. I feel renewed and ready to try again after reading your post. And just so you know, every time I start feeling irritable, I come back and read your posts again and again and it puts me back in a good place. I'm ready to go "spread some sunshine" and delight in my kids today!
Thanks, Amy!
Love ya,
Tanya
Thanks Amy for your words of wisdom!! What a reminder for me that simple words to our kids make such a difference in their lives! I have had to catch up reading your blog and am so blessed by each days words! Thanks for sharing, you are making a difference in my life! Lately I have been "pulling away" and you have helped me put things back into perspective! Keep em' coming! Kelly Z.
I agree with Kelly above (and remembering a Kelly Zerger I went to HS with, but think this is a different one). Anyway, thank you for your "reality checks" that I get everytime I read your posts. I love the little positive statement idea --- will definitely be trying it with my 3 year old:) Keep the posts coming - they are inspiring me to stick to making changes:)
