I will admit it. I am as small town as you can possibly get. And our little town has a BIG event once a year. From tonight on...I will be going 'downtown' as much as possible. Tonight, I'll go down just to see them set things up. (laugh if you must) Tomorrow, we'll be gathering at the baseball fields with half of Mulvane to watch...wait for it...the TURTLE RACES! Followed by the Kid Races and then we'll be off to ride rides and bask in the excitement of what can only be referred to as OLD SETTLERS!!!
The tradition. The memories. The fair. The carnival food. The people.
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Honestly. I have loved this time of year since I was a kid. I love people. I love crowds. I love the food...oh the food.
I can remember vividly being pregnant with Brett and coming from the hospital (sent home because I was NOT in labor) and going straight to Old Settlers for Super Tacos. Three of them. Yep. I love them. I am sure people were staring as I waddled through the fair with my hospital bracelet, three tacos and a giant Pepsi. (No diet yet because I was pregnant with my first child and had no idea what regular pop, food like that and a baby would do to my body) I was the vision of loveliness...I am sure.
What I love about Old Settlers is that it never changes. The rides are always there. The parade always goes the same route. The Church always has an air conditioned luncheon. The craft show is always completely buzzing on Saturday afternoons. The Little Miss Pioneer contest has been around forever. The Shriners are always in the parade. The car show is always full of people staring...and some men are drooling...I am sure of it. The kids are always looking their best trying to make the most of their last ditch effort to enjoy summer before School really kicks into full gear. It never changes. People change. People come and go. But the weekend seems to be the same no matter what.
Kind of like God's love. It is always there...never changing. It isn't based on our actions or our words. It isn't based on good or bad choices. It is just there. And I love God so much. I love that it isn't once a year. I love that His love isn't once a day. It is all day...everyday...no matter what.
Thank you Lord...for your unconditional...constant...love. Thank you for being there all the time...even when I cannot feel you. And Lord...thank you for Super Tacos. I am super excited to eat them. :)
Have a Blessed Day ALL!!!
Amy

LOL...I can only laugh. I too love Old Settlers. I really love that you can find a way to praise God in all that you do...even Old Settler's. And yes, I too thank God for Super Tacos! Larry Gerwick makes a mean Super Taco. :)
