I am perplexed. Middle has a basketball tournament schedule in which 2 out of 4 tournaments have been cancelled due to lack of 3rd grade teams. My oldest son has played one game for the YMCA here in Wichita and we have yet to receive a schedule for the rest of his season.
I am at a loss.
I almost don't know what to do with myself.
For the past two or three years, both boys have been playing ball starting in Nov., immediately following football. We've been overlapping with practices for the last few weeks in Oct. trying to get ready for the upcoming basketball season and the final football bowl game.
But not this year.
Basketball practice barely started before Christmas at all...which was wonderful. And now, here we are on Jan. 13th...and we've played one game.
I keep waiting for the ball to drop. (No pun intended) We thought we had a tournament for this weekend so I stocked up on goodies for little to put in his backpack...I bought Powerades for the boys for their games...and sat down with my schedule to clear a path for the "start" of our season.
And then...we find out that the tournament has been cancelled and Big's game has been moved to Tuesday.
And my first thought was...don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
We now have a weekend...another one...of no games. We can be home, as a family. We can get our grocery shopping done...we can go to a movie...or out to eat. The possibilities are endless for the upcoming weekend because we have NO plans!
I guess God knows exactly when and what we need. We are a family that loves sports. Coach loves them...the boys love them...I love watching my family love them. It is what we do. When we have spare time...when we go on a vacation...it is usually involving some kind of sport or sporting event. One of the best times we've had with our older boys was when we took them to the College World Series a couple of years ago. That was a good time...but obviously, we needed a break.
My point is...we had our minds wrapped around being overwhelmed with the basketball season...and we've been given a little break. Time to enjoy one another. Really, truly enjoy our evenings at home. Our weekends inside, out of the cold.
Yesterday I was so frustrated that I couldn't fill out my calendar. Today, I am enjoying the fact that my calendar is clear...and it is not a big deal. I like to plan things. I like to know what is happening a few days in advance. But this weekend...we're just going to enjoy the fact that we have no schedule...again. It really is the little things...
Have a blessed day and STAY WARM!
