Nothing More Important

This morning, I read my devotional only to be faced again with an ugly truth. Sheesh. I love the devotional that I was given for Christmas, but it is making me take a look into my life over and over again. I guess that daily evaluation is good for the soul...

Yesterday, I wrote about finding the "this moments" in our lives. And about not focusing on the past. Today's post is about not letting the "this moments" slip away due to the busy times in our lives.

We as women have mastered the art of multi-tasking.

Which I would have to say is one of my best assets. I can help with homework, while cooking dinner. I can console a friend while folding laundry. I can blog while helping my kids through tough times. I can make plans with Coach through texting while I am chatting away with my Grandmother. I am a multi-tasker DELUXE.
All this time, I thought this was something to brag about.

Turns out, I am missing the "this moments" in my life due to my super deluxe talent.

In life, we only get so many chances to spend time with the ones we love. To have those once in a lifetime conversations with our elders...and I have been guilty of two timing these moments with something that "needs" to get done.

The dinner can be late.

The laundry can wait to be folded.

The phone can be turned off...and just like when I was growing up...people can leave a message and I can deal with it later.

So many times we are about instant gratification. We need to take care of everything in the now. When truth be told...while fixing everything and planning everything...we are missing something. Something very important.

That moment when my son shares with me he has a girlfriend for the first time...I want to be present.

That moment when a friend tells me that her marriage is failing and she doesn't know what to do...I want to be present.

That moment when my Granny tells me about her past...I want to be present.

That moment when Coach shares something about his day that is important...I want to be present.

That moment when a friend tells me they understand the relationship I have with God...I want to be present.

So often we are not present in our "this moments". We look back and think...I wish I had been listening more...or, I wish I had said things differently.

If we focus on the present...and live in our "this moments"...we'll have no regrets.

So here's to retiring our multitasking ability for awhile. Here's to realizing taking one thing at a time isn't such a bad idea.

Here's to seeing our "this moment" as it should be.

Have a Blessed Day all!
