He Is

I was catching up on my blog reading this morning as I sat freezing in my kitchen with my cup of coffee and I read something I just HAD to share.

He is who He says He is.

With the sound of the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse in the background...I sat and read a blog that I haven't had time to read in a long time.  And the post was about knowing and not knowing the bible.  Some people KNOW the bible.  One of my dear friends can quote scripture like none other.  She will just blurt out a verse in the perfect time...and it amazes me.  I will be sad over something...and she'll have the word right there for me.  I will be celebrating over something and she'll have a verse that shows me God is celebrating too.  (Bonnie...I love that about you)

However...I am not one of those people.  I grew up with a Precious Moment bible that had my name on the outside of it.  I loved that bible.  And believe it or not, the pictures almost taught me more about the scripture than the words.  It was the King James Version though and I really struggled to understand.  I learned bible verses through Sunday School and church camp.   I learned about bible verses through living and breathing.  Not by reading the bible every day.  I have tried as an adult to read that thing...just read it.  No deal.  I started from the beginning...and got through Genesis...which I had already read a thousand times trying to "start" the bible.  (Much like my diet and exercise routines)  I started reading Revelations...so that I could read it backwards...No deal.  That book made me a nervous wreck.  I get that we are saved...I get that we are His...I get that we won't be here to see all of that...but I am not into the scare tactics of that book of the bible.  No thank you.  I would rather live in my oblivious world that things will always just be "good".  I have even sat down and let my bible fall open to whatever page God wants me to read...No deal here either.  It is hard to start in the middle of the story and get anywhere with it...period.

I have an incredible bible though (Life Application Study Bible)...and this is what I do.  I do not have time to sit and read the entire Bible from start to finish. But when I need an answer...I go to the back of my study bible to the reference word part.  You can look up any word (feeling, emotion) and it will lead you to scriptures that relate to the what you are in need of.  I also like to go to www.biblegateway.com to get answers about scripture.  In all of my spare time (ha ha) I am working on a bible study...which is an important way to understand the bible.  Bible Studies make us relate to and understand the word.  But with bible studies...you do a little at a time.  In our fast forward pace of life...that can be hard to do sometimes.  I feel like I might be going a little off track here.

My point is this.  Some people were raised to know the word.  To relate to...to memorize...to understand the bible from front to back and to know God.  Others were raised just to know God.  Both are good.  No way is better than the other.  I don't get the bible all of the time.  I don't understand all of the scriptures.  I don't know what verses to use in times of joy...in times of sadness...in times of worry.  But I know His love.  I understand His love.  And I know how to let it shine.  I want to know more about the Bible.  I am working on that.  But for right now...I have what I read this morning to keep me going.

He is who He says He is.  And that is enough for me.

Have a Blessed Sunday!

He is who He Says He is --- reminds me of Beth Moore's bible study, Believing God! It is an awesome study!!!! Here is the 5 statement pledge of faith that Beth Moore had us repeat at the beginning of each lesson:
1) God is who He says He is!
2) God can do what he says He can do!
3) I am who God says I am.
4) I can do all things in Christ.
5) God's word is alive and active in me.
I'M BELIEVING GOD! This said while pointing to your heart with your thumb (I'm), then temple with index finger (believing), then up to Heaven (God). Truly amazing!
