Promises, Promises
Psalms 145:6
I'm starting to pick up on a theme with my devotions. Each day as I move forward, I am getting to know a little more about God. I have been raised in a christian home. I have attended church most of my life. I know the stories and I (kind of) know the book. I love God. But, do I know God? Do I really know him? I am to put my trust in him and know he loves me beyond what I can understand. I am to love him and be a reflection of him in the lives of others. But, do I know him well enough to do the job?
Knowing more about God cannot be confused with knowing it all. We'll never fully understand the depths of what God has to offer. It does help us when we are trying to live our lives for him.
Today's devotion was about God's promises. They are never broken. Human promises? We all know that human promises break. It isn't always on purpose. Life gets in the way sometimes and promises (and sometimes hearts) are broken. I believe God teaches us the value of forgiving because he knows as humans we'll never be perfect.
Max Lucado says this:
Every rainbow reminds us of God's covenant. Curiously, astronauts who've seen rainbows from outer space tell us they form a complete circle. God's promises are equally unbroken and unending.
When Coach and I got married, our minister used our rings to show as a symbol of God's love and the love we share for each other. We made a promise to each other as God made a promise to us. We love as he loves us. That's what life is all about.
As we get to know God, we can be certain of these things. God's promise do not fail. They do not break. When earthly promises fail us, we know that God's never will. They are solid ground on which we will always be able to stand.
Have a blessed day!
