Guilty as Charged

Luke 12: 22, 29

I've been slacking on my devotions this week.  We had a very long weekend in which I told myself not to get on the computer for any reason at all.  I committed myself to cleaning out and cleaning up our house.  Little didn't feel well so the occasional "sit on the couch and hold me" was required.  I looked at Pinterest when he would get interested in something on TV, but other than that...the computer was off limits.

Today's devotion really caught my attention though.  It was all about how we put our trust in earthly things rather than God.  We find ourselves building savings accounts and investment accounts for the security of our future.  We are constantly thinking that the grass is greener where there is more money.  In this world we live in today, I realize our country's financial situation is not the best.  I don't think the writer is saying you shouldn't be smart and be prepared with money to fall back on if necessary.  What he is saying is to put your trust in the Lord.

Max Lucado said this...

If there were no God, stuff-trusting would be the only appropriate response to an uncertain future.  But there is a God.  And this God does not want his children to trust money.

I took that a little further in my own situation and thought about the things I depend on to determine what makes my day "good".  Is a good day when I get paid?  Is a good day when I find money in the laundry?  Is a good day when I get my degree?

I've put a lot of stock in finally getting my degree.  It is a good thing and I think that will be a GREAT day.  But not because that degree will give me security in this life.  It will be a great day because I accomplished a goal by the grace of God.

Sometimes we put too much emphasis on the wrong things that create a "good" day or mood.  God is asking that we remember that ultimately, our trust is in Him.  Not the earthly things that surround us.

Good food for thought.  :)

I saw on Pinterest this quote that couldn't have been more appropriate.

Have a blessed day!
