Prayer

Little Praying (2 years old)

Colossians 4:21

My devotion for today was about the power of prayer.  Not in the way you would think.  Prayer offers many benefits, but one that I hadn't considered is what it does to Satan himself.  Satan thrives when we stress, worry, and fear.  The one thing that makes Satan come to his knees is our communication with God.  He knows that we find strength and can refuel from that time of togetherness with the one who is holy.

One of my favorite sayings is this:

When life gets too hard to stand...kneel in prayer.

Life does get to be too much sometimes.  We get overwhelmed and become consumed by worry and fear. We are told to trust and fear not...and we can do so by stopping ourselves and praying.  Being still...and praying with an alert mind and a thankful heart.

Prayer is sometimes a struggle for me.  I have a hard time shutting down my mind and giving my full focus to God.  My mind wanders and my thoughts are elsewhere.  (What needs to be done before I go to bed?...What if this happens tomorrow?...I wonder if that person is upset with me?)  I know better as I have been taught to pray many times.  Those wandering thoughts are Satan's way of breaking communication between God and myself.  It is frustrating to think of all the times I've let Satan interfere with my precious conversations with God.

Max Lucado says,

Jesus immersed his words and work in prayer.  Powerful things happen when we do the same.

Prayer is a powerful communication tool between us and God.  We can't let anything come between those moments.  For it is in those special times with God that we find peace and Satan fails.

Have a blessed day!
