Mark 5:36
I saw this saying the other day that said something like this...
If at first you don't succeed, go back and do what your Mom told you to do.
How true is that? It made me laugh a little. Since I was very young, there were MANY times I did the exact opposite of what my parents told me to do. Now...I have three boys of my own. Sometimes they do what they are told and sometimes they follow their own path. What I tell them comes from my love for them and from my life experience. I share this knowledge because it is something I've been through and understand. Now...I'm not talking about the saying...
Put a coat on. Your Mother is cold.
I'm talking about the kind of advice that helps them through troubled times. The words, thoughts, and prayers that help them when they don't understand the possible consequences of a choice.
You. Were. Right.
Had I trusted them and their judgment, it would have saved me a lot of heartache over the years.
The devotion for today was about putting that trust in the Lord and knowing we can meet fear with our faith. When the path in front of us looks scary and discouraging, we are to go to him and trust that he has taken the steps before us. Max Lucado talks about a family vacation where his Father would take them trout fishing along side a river in Colorado. The currents were choppy and terribly dangerous. His Father would take extra precaution in finding the safest spot for he and his boys to fish. Their location would have lots of rocks for them to stand on and if there weren't enough rocks, he'd place a few more to ensure the safety of his children. Once he placed the rocks, he would test them by putting his weight on them.
God does this for us too. He puts himself in the lead. He takes the steps before we do...testing them...making sure they are safe. He guides us through our path if we are willing to listen. We can take our own way, but trust me on this one. You'll end up back on this path after many winding roads of your own.
We are to trust in the Lord. After all...Father knows best...right?
Have a blessed day!
