Reflections

I am not a huge sports fan...anyone who has been reading this knows that all too well. However...I do LOVE watching my boys play sports. Even if I have no clue what is going on.

One of my favorite things about the week leading up to the New Year is all of the year end videos on ESPN. Lots of "bests" and "all time" games...moves...and blah blah blah. I won't even pretend like I know what I am talking about. What I do know is that the year end videos and the music they add to them usually makes me get the chills and even a little teary. Why? From someone who knows nothing about sports? Would a year end sports video bring me to tears? Well a couple of reasons I believe...

1. Because I cry at just about anything.

2. Because Coach and my kids have a passion for this thing I know very little about...and anything that brings them that much happiness...brings me to tears.

3. Because I have the utmost respect for the level of competition that these athletes are competing in. They give their absolute best. The best of the best of 2010. And then we get to see their efforts again and again. It is pretty cool watching them do what I couldn't dream of doing...and what I know my boys dream about doing.

So in an attempt to do my own Best of the Best...I decided to go back through the months of my past year of blog writing and re post my favorite blogs. We'll call this week reflection week. I know in my personal devotion books, I go back and read things over and over...sometimes learning new things...sometimes just being reminded of actions I may not have done as well as I could have. So for anyone who is reading this...these are as much for me as they are for you.

Enjoy...and know that I am still learning with every single word I type. :D

Not enough coffee...
So a couple of mornings ago, coach came home from fitness bootcamp. Let me start off by telling you all a little about coach. He is a simple man. He does not want for anything too fancy or noticeable. He drives an old, white truck and absolutely loves what he does for a living. He is quiet most of the time. He is a wonderful Father and an incredible teacher and coach. He has more motivation and personal drive than I can even imagine...and I love him for it. Okay, back to the story...he came in from his super early morning workout and I hit him with this statement. "There is not enough coffee in the world to make this a good day." Not hello, not how was bootcamp, just BAM. Immediate negativity and frustration. You see, our three year old had been up since 3:00 a.m. He got up for good at 5:15 a.m. when the garage door closed as coach left for workouts. I was tired, and cranky and meant what I said. I have attached a picture of a coffee mug that my sis got me a while back. There are mornings it is so true. I am tired and I want a cookie. But as soon as I said the words to coach that morning, I knew I had done it. I immediately turned his mood sour along with my own. The truth of the matter is this...coffee can't make my day good. Neither can our three year old sleeping through the night. Whether I have a good day or a bad day is up to me. I have been given the choice each morning when I wake, to make the most of the day. If I choose to pout and whine around because something didn't go my way...it is exactly that...MY CHOICE. I can't put that blame on anyone, but myself. Because life is what YOU make of it. Yesterday I had what I considered to be a "bad" day. Things just kept happening, unexpectedly that caused more work for me. By the time the day was done, I had two friends in my living room with me and I sat down with them and cried. Thank you Trista and Katie for letting me cry it out. Immediately I felt better. I had held in my frustrations all day long. Not once did I go to the Lord with my thoughts. Not once did I blame him either. After my friends left, I felt so much better...but this thought remained in my head. 'God has been here all day long and I never reached out to him' I could have so easily cried to him...yet I try to carry the load of those days and end up choosing to make it a bad day. Psalms 119:24 says, This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.So that is my goal for today. Of course it is Friday and that makes it easier for me to make this a GREAT day, but today will be a good day. Not because someone behaves all day (highly unlikely) or because someone randomly brings me a diet coke...but because this is the day that the Lord has made. And I am choosing to be glad in it. I am still tired, and I still want a cookie, but my day today will be good. Will yours?
