Have you ever gone to the store for just a few things?
And once you entered the giant, wonderful, market-place type store, you see it. The cutest little cart...perfect for the shopper here for only a few things!
You grab it...and stroll through the store to get your few items. And then...because the store is so big and full of stuff...you get easily distracted. By ice cream mainly...and some fruit...and a deep conditioner for your hair. Before you know it, your little cart is full.
You have to stop, or you'll be forced to carry more than the three sixty seven cent Powerades that you could not live without.
You get to the checkout line...and you think...I only have 20 items...I'm sure of it.
You quickly get into the express lane and smile sweetly at the cashier who sees you holding your 21st item.
She hands you your receipt and you are out the door. But you don't want to take the cute little cart out...because it doesn't really fit in the cart return. So you think...I've got this. You load all eight bags on your arm. Success. You pull your keys from the purse and then shift four of the eight bags from one arm to the other. With your purse you realize it is too much. The two liters must go on the other arm. You make the switch as the plastic on the bags is starting to stretch.
You see your car. Only a few spaces from the door of the super market place store. People are starting to stare. Not because you are doing a great job, but because they are wondering why you chose to carry eight bags rather than push the cart out of the store. You walk tall...because you are totally doing this. But the bags are making that "I'm going to break and spill your few groceries all over the parking lot" sound. You speed up...because speed walking is cool...and then it happens. You reach the van...and the bags start to fall. Some get hooked on your watch, but it doesn't matter. You can't feel your arms anyway from the weight of the Powerades and two liters. Down they go.
You look around casually to see if anyone is watching. You begin to nervously laugh at yourself and pick up the groceries that are rolling under the car. The good news is, you spared the ice cream from the fall. The bad news is, it is melting because it is 109 degrees outside. You get it all picked up, and get in your van...feeling like an idiot. Stupid cute little cart that didn't fit in the cart return.
So...does this happen to anyone else? Or is it just me?
No need to answer.
Love,
Me...Referee of 3 and a few groceries
