There comes a time in your faith walk where you have to face the truth. Last night was one of those moments for me.
I was asked by a friend’s daughter to be her confirmation mentor. Sure! I can do that. No problem. To help a child become a member of the church and to explore and strengthen her relationship with Christ…I was honored.
I am a believer in Christ. I accepted Jesus into my heart a long time ago. I was 13 at the time and I loved Jesus with all of my heart. I loved and believed because I loved and believed. It was the love of a child and I don’t think I’ve ever gotten past that. It was a moment I won’t ever forget. And it has been a journey ever since. I have faith and I believe. I love God and that has always been enough.
Last night at the confirmation meeting, PR asked the question, what does faith or belief mean to you?
Well…hmmmm.
I pictured myself as a contestant in a pageant. I’ve always wanted to be in a beauty pageant and it just never worked out. My question was…why do you love God?
“Well” (insert big, cheesy smile here), “I love God because I have faith and I believe. And I just love him.” (Continuing to smile a big, cheesy smile)
(Announcer voice) And what does faith and belief mean to you?
(Insert silence and big, cheesy smile HERE)
I’m not sure how to answer the question. I do however know for a fact that I would dazzle the judges with my Zumba moves in talent and my skirted tankini in the bathing suit competition. So I’m not sure the answer even matters as long as I remember to take my glasses off before I start the Zumba portion of my talent.
My point to this is that I am not sure I know why I have faith or why I believe. I feel like I have been just getting by in my faith walk and perhaps I need to dig a little deeper to find out why I love God so much. I know in my heart I am full of peace because of the spirit. I know that in good times and in bad…I am never alone. I know that I love God and that His love for me helps me to love and forgive others. But the bible…and scripture…and our history? I don’t really know where I stand and what I believe.
To have childlike faith is a blessing. But as an adult trying to influence others and show his love…I feel like it might be time to know more. Hang on…it could be an adventurous few weeks.
Have a blessed day!
